Lady calls off wedding slated for April 16 @ Winners Chapel over fiance’s violent behaviours

by Church Times
A lady that goes by the name Ada Aburu has called off her wedding slated for April 16 over allegations that her fiance was always beating her during courtship.
The lady took to her Facebook  page on Wednesday, April 13 at about 5 pm to announce the cancellation of the wedding,
But the name on the wedding invitation is different from the name of the lady on Facebook. It is not too clear the identity of the lady in question. The name, Ada Aburu seems to be her Facebook name. The name on the invitation is Ozioma Helen Michael.
Apparently, the estranged couple were slated to wed at Winners Chapel, Amata Uhuru Ebonyi State
She wrote:
I never wanted to bring this here but I have to, I am the type of person who likes to keep my relationship away from social media but this is for clarification purposes.
This was my secondary school classmate whom I thought I knew to an extent. On December 28, 2020, he did the 1st and 2nd stages in my family marriage list. The bride price happened to be on the 2nd stage which he paid. After he paid my bride price he started maltreating me.
2021 was hell for me that at some point I left home, after everything we settled around November 2021 when he promised he will never beat me again. But still, nothing CHANGED.
This is my reason why I am CALLING OFF the Traditional Marriage (Igba Ngwu) and White Wedding ceremony between me and DAVID OKIKE OFF. (Beating me was not part of the agreement in our Marriage)
This Saturday should have been my traditional and white wedding ceremony day… I am supposed to be happy but I am not.
For a couple of months now I have been going through a lot.
I have been in a TOXIC RELATIONSHIP for OVER a YEAR now.. I am aware that this may be a shock to many people, especially people from my Home Town. My supposed husband HIT and ABUSE me at any slightest provocation, just small misunderstandings without minding what condition I am into.
Because I have chosen ME and I will not live my entire life facing DOMESTIC VIOLENCE. My supposed husband is full of RAGE, BEATING me with his Belt, Stick, Broom is his DAILY ROUTINE,
Many times he had lifted his hammer on me, and this Monday last week just because of a little misunderstanding he beat me mercilessly, and in the process of it, he rushed into his mother’s kitchen for a cutlass.
When I noticed he was going for a weapon I locked the door behind him which he forcefully opened. His mother and Sisters and some neighbors were begging him not to cut me with the cutlass. With all these things and more I am fed up.

I am calling off the wedding

I AM CALLING OFF THE WEDDING AND TRADITIONAL MARRIAGE (IGBA NGWU) BETWEEN ME AND DAVID OKIKE that is supposed to hold on this Saturday 16th, April 2022.
Please to my family and friends I am so sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you ??
But I will not end up with a man who always promises that if I didn’t kill him, he will kill me.
I am still suffering from the unstoppable headache I sustained from the head injury he gave me 3 weeks ago.
The “bride price paid” will be Returned in due time.
Please Respect my choices. Thanks and God bless you all.

Wise girl! Some people will go ahead and marry the man simply because money has been spent for the preparations etc. The very fact that a man lifts his hand against you is the mother of all deal breakers.

It’s seems Osinachi’s case is an opener to many women going through domestic violence.

Good and reasonable decision.
No matter the offence committed, if a man would beat you mercilessly and dare raise a cutlass to cut you, it is evident that you have known prospective your killer, and the killing/execution date is around the corner. People say, “A living dog is better than a dead lion”.
Helen, people may disapprove of your decision now, but your life is sacred, precious and more important than people’s opinions, your parents’ opinions inclusive. You are better off being alive, unmarried, happy and free of fear of death than being married and living in a toxic marriage, which is hell on earth. The effect of toxic marriage would not be felt on only you but on everything and everyone associated with you in every way.

Keep trusting God, and a man who would value you for who you are and treat you with respect and honour would come your way.

Congratulations Helen on your difficult but wise decision. Please take a step further by taking a protective order against him on threat to your life. He said if you don’t kill him, he will kill you and since you d ok now plan to kill him, that’s a threat to your life. Cancelling the wedding will surely irk him and can make him more brutal. So please have him sign an undertaking at the police station not to harm or maime you; either directly or by proxy. Once again, Congratulations; you’ve got this girl ??
