The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has emphasised the importance of unity among believers saying the church will not make much impact without it.
He made the observation while delivering a message at the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria’s biennial conference which took place at the Dunamis Gospel Centre in Abuja recently.
Adeboye said, “If we are going to demonstrate God’s power we have to be united and the way to be united is to humble ourselves. When the people were building the tower, God said they would succeed because they were united. Even God won’t be able to stop them.
“If we can be united, if we are not saying I am from the South, West, East or North, if we can be one, anything we want to do we will be able to do it.”
He insisted that the only way the church can experience unity is for every church leader to humble themselves and stop arrogating to themselves self-importance. “If a fellow is saying I know more than you do, you are inferior, you don’t have revelation. There is no way we can make an impact” he said.
While lamenting the disunity among the church and the brickbats that go on online, he said, “There are many people in my family who did not go to the university I do not despise. My father had two wives and several children. In the Adeboye family, we fight a lot. But the moment we step out of our house, if anybody dare touch one of us, that person has touched everybody.” He said.
According to Pastor Adeboye, until the church “comes to that kind of unity, we will have some problems. All over the internet things are happening. People rebuke this fellow and that fellow and all of us keep quiet. But until we all know that if one talks against one Christian you talk against all we will not make any impact”
Adeboye asked, “Have you ever seen anyone speak against the Sultan of Sokoto? Try it.” He said, adding, “We must become united and humble ourselves then our prayers will be answered.”
