Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God has emphasized the need for the Church to give priority to the house church.
This is as a result of the covid-19 pandemic which led to the shut down of church buildings across the globe.
He made the recommendation in his message on August 3 at the flag off the 68th convention of the RCCG which is holding online.
Adeboye who was full of thanksgiving to God for how the Lord saw the Church through the pandemic said more than ever before the church should begin to lay emphasis on house church
He noted that there are many instances of a house church in the early Church. Quoting copiously from the New Testament, he mentioned instances of the Church in the house of believers saying, “We need to go back to how the church started. It will be my joy if every house becomes a church.”
He recalled that the RCCG in the UK started with five people in the house adding that the church has grown tremendously today in that part of the world. “In the US too, I had urged our members to start the RCCG, but they kept saying they were already attending one Pentecostal church. But I had to impress on my cousin, Pastor Fadel to start RCCG in his house. I know US is a country of law, but I said to him he had to start the church. Today we have about 3000 parishes in the US”
Sharing his own experience during the lockdown, he said he and his family had a great time of worship and fellowship in house.
While urging members of the church to brace up for a new era whereby their homes will be dedicated church centres, he said, “When your house becomes a church, you can be assured of God’s blessings upon that house. Obededum was a clear example of a man God blessed tremendously because the church was in his house in the form of the ark of the covenant. People began to envy him because he was being blessed that they had to report to David that the man who has the ark is being blessed.”
