Covid-19: Give members money, food and medical accessories CAN appeals to church leaders
Bothered by the plague called coronavirus currently holding down the world, the President of Christian Association of Nigeria, Rev. Dr. Olasupo Ayokunle has appealed to pastors and churches across the country to rise up to the occasion and support members that may need food, money and other medical help.
In a memo dated March 27, signed by the secretary of the organisation, Joseph Bade Daramola, the CAN president urged the leaders to appeal to local church pastors under their watch to come to the aid of people that may need support during this period of lockdown.
He said such help could be rendered through the social welfare scheme of the churches.
According to the memo, the palliative measures may include money, food stuffs, surgery gloves and mouth masks.
The memo informed further that each local church should design a method that will not violate the mass gathering and social distancing order to distribute those items. In areas that they cannot reach, the CAN president advised that the relief for people in such places could be monetized.
He reminded the leaders that the church has a responsibility to help the weak quoting the words of Jesus in Matthew 25 v34-46.
The Christian body through the memo also called on the federal government to release some palliatives measures to help the people that cannot pursue their means of livelihood in this period of lockdown.
It then prayed that God will intervene in the global crisis and bring an end to the scourge of the virus sooner than later.
