Ibiyeomie descends on Daddy Freeze says ‘you can’t insult Oyedepo when am alive

by Church Times

General Overseer of Porthacourt based Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie has warned leader of Free the Sheep Movement, Ifedayo Olarinde also known as Daddy Freeze to desist from attacking Bishop David Oyedepo if he does not want to incur his wrath.

Ibiyeomie who literally threw caution to the wind in a recent message shared by Church Gist an on-line church video platform said he can’t be alive and allow a character like Daddy Freeze to insult Bishop Oyedepo.

He asked those who know him to warn him assuring that he would tear him to pieces when next he dares insult Oyedepo.

He queried the identity of Daddy Freeze, poured invectives on him and warned him to stay away from Bishop Oyedepo.

He described Oyedepo as his father. saying, ‘Oyedepo may not talk o, but I will talk. Who is Daddy Freeze to insult my father? I will skin him alive’ he vowed.

He said he was ready to go the whole length to bring daddy Freeze to size saying, ‘if he tries it again I will sue him and use every other means to cut him to size.’

It was not clear what Daddy Freeze said about Bishop Oyedepo. But Ibiyeomie’s outburst may not be unconnected with some scathing remarks by Daddy Freeze on some of Oyedepo’s messages

Ibiyeomiye who was unsparing in his use of harsh words on Daddy Freeze urged those who know him to warn him.

After dissipating anger on Freeze he told the congregation who were cheering him never to look on where their father is being insulted.

He signed off with a wry smile while declaring, ‘let us pray’

He then added, ”there is a lion part o. May the lion part of faith come upon you:

Well, this is embarrassing to the Spirit of Christ whom we claim to represent. Nothing in the Gospels or Epistles support this kind of reactionary virulence from a minister of Christ privately or publicly.

Even Apostle Peter would be ashamed of this public threat by a Christian to an unbeliever. For he would remember how he zealously tried to “talk” against those who insulted his “father” in the garden of Gethsemane. He would remember quite well how his Master rebuked him right there of his violence and remedied the damages his outbursts had caused.

Peter, having learned and received from the Spirit of his “father”, went on later to instruct Christians who were facing most hurtful threats to their dignity and lives to remember the Lord Jesus in their moments of provocation, how he bore it all without giving insult for insult… They should walk in the footsteps of Christ in situations like that.

This public outbursts will further fuel the fire of disrespect for the men of God not only in our land but certainly worldwide.

Bishop Oyedepo needs to rebuke Rev. David publicly as Jesus Christ did Peter in the garden of Gethsemane or else he too would have failed to walk in the footsteps of the Lord Jesus Christ whom he represents.

The supporting audience! Hmm… A revelation of the scriptural ignorance prevalent in most Pentecostal churches.

There’s just no scriptural justification for this. No. Not at all.

The Lord though described just ONCE by an elder as “the Lion of the tribe of Judah” in the book of Revelation was consistently called “the Lamb” all through the same book of Revelation. In that same chapter 5, it is evident that Jesus Christ our Lord who was described as a lion didn’t fight or prevail against the devil and all his works with the brutality of a lion but with the humility, gentility and serenity of a lamb. The Spirit of Christ is not a lion spirit. It is a lamb spirit. And no believer should claim to have a lion spirit which Christ does not have.

As long as we continue to interpret scripture texts wrongly we shall continue to witness this kind of carnality camouflaging as spirituality among us.

May God help us all.

I am deeply impressed that, like the 7,000 prophets who had not bowed their knees to Baal, the Body of Christ still has a minority like Olusegun Ajao who responds to issues dispassionately, not out of sentiments or by sharp acidic criticisms but in accord to scriptures and the Spirit of Christ. If not that this matter is in full glare of the people of the world, I might not offered my opinions.

The vituperous outbursts of Rev. Ibiyeome and the complimentary endorsements by his Church followers is an indication that some in the Nigerian Churches have shifted “far east of Eden”. I try not to imagine the impression that would have been created in the mind of people of the world, especially those contemplating drawing near to the Church, hoping that Christ that the Church proclaims can be the solution to their vitriolic temperaments and nasty dispositions. The arrogance of our brother in the Christian faith, Rev. Ibiyeomie was as conspicuous as a neon sign on a dark night. A discerning person would sense the undertones of a man of God who was subtly boasting of having superfluous quantum of this world’s riches. The calibre of Jeff Bezos, Bill Gate, Mike Adenuga, etc will be hesitant to throw themselves into the Church, wondering what their pastors will become when they receive their tithes and “first fruits” even within the first one year.

There are too many issues to frown at but I will just express my sincere perspectives on a few of them. In the first place, the Bible instructs us in too many instances not to curse. Over 4,000 years ago, indeed about 500 years before Moses was inspired to pen the Law, nomadic Job, without the Law, without the gospels and without the Holy Spirit per se, realised intuitively that it was a sin to curse an enemy-Job 31: 29-30, not to talk of someone of allied faith. By the Spirit of God, Stephen, falling under the barrage of enemies’ stones was praying for them, not cursing them. Stephen was a mere table server, later acknowledged as a deacon, having no titles prefixed to his name and no degrees or diplomas appendixed after. To my observations, many of us believers had not yet made it a practice to delineate or make distinction between the Old Testament and New Testament theology. Hence some of us still make David or Elijah our model rather than Paul or indeed our Lord Jesus Christ-1 Corinthians 11: 1. To stress this, the Lord had to strongly rebuke his disciples, who were still saturated with Old Testament orientations-Luke 9: 51-56.

He threathened law suit if Daddy Freeze repeats an insult to his father. Paul did not hesitate at the onset of his epistle to the carnal Corinthians Church to caution them against taking one another to court. To demonstrate his Christianity as against our contemporary religiosity or “churchianity”, he was quick to apologise when he inadvertently insulted an high priest, not even that he cursed him. If Paul was too much of a Christian theologian, we have a balance in Peter, utterly unlettered fisherman who reminded the Church that Christ left us an example or a model that we should follow in His steps, who when insulted did not retaliate, neither did He threaten. In these aspects, Bishop Oyedepo, the primary stakeholder did not fall into the devil’s trap, ostensibly reckoning Daddy Freeze as a fellow believer. In these respects, the reverend gentleman had not actually exemplified or emulated his “spiritual” father not mention his heavenly Father.

If even Daddy Freeze, who is relatively green in ministry erred, the world, not even the spiritually wiser Church, concedes that two wrongs do not make a right. It is difficult for some of us to discount the threat to life as a huge joke because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks and of course, as a man thinketh, so is he. For crying out loud, a man of God publicly cast aspersions on the ****of the mother of Daddy Freeze, a highly respected lady, a responsible professor of Law, who, to the best of my knowledge, was at one time the chairman of Committee of Vice-Chancellors. I don’t even see how his parents should have been cited in this whole matter. Indeed the man of God had been rather too puerile in his misplaced defence of his father on a public platform. And expectedly, the followership of his Church also reflected what pedigree they are by thunderous echoing in unison.

Hank Hanegraaff, the world renowned Bible Answer Man, President of Christian Research Institute, arguably the foremost Apologetic ministry in the world wrote a book Christianity In Crisis about two decades ago. Please pardon me if I surmise that with the current trends, especially on the African terrain, the Church in the last 20 years has descended further from being in crisis to something indefinite and undefinable. Hence we all owe ourselves the obligations of earnest prayers for the Body of Christ for a fresh and refreshing ascent. God bless us all. Shalom!-ODUNUGA, O.O.
