The iconic music legend credited with the evergreen song, Odun lo sopin, Mrs Deborah Fashoyin has said she was not the one who composed the song..
She made the confession during an interview shared online by FM 365.
Fashoyin who was upbeat in the about five minutes interview said the song was recorded in 1979 adding however the song had been in existence ever before the CAC choir she was leading came together to record the song.
While insisting that the composer of the song is still unknown she said, ‘I must confess to you till tomorrow, we don’t know the composer of the song. We only added two verses to it. There were many CAC churches in Ibadan. In those days whenever they had revival programmes towards the end of the year, you hear people sing the song, Odun lo sopin, (meaning the year is coming to an end). That chorus belongs to CAC. We only added two verses.’
Fashoyin who spoke in Yoruba language during the interview said she and her group did not go to any mountain to pray to get the song. She stressed that it was a song that was everywhere ever before it was formerly recorded.’
Some of the commentators on the online platform corroborated Fashion’s submission. Some noted that the song has been around since 1975.
Many however praised the sincerity of the legendary gospel artist for owning up that she did not compose the song which has simply refused to fade away.
This is not the first time Mrs Fashoyin would make a public confession that she did not compose the song. She had always let people know that she was not the author of the song.
Odun lo sopin is a Yoruba song popularised by Mrs Fashoyin and her band. The song resonates with the end of the year mood. It is a prayer filled song asking for God’s protective hand, guidance and provision as the year comes to an end.
