Elizabeth Sodipo: Foods that can improve your emotional well-being
A food enthusiast, caterer and trainer, Elizabeth Sodipo has urged Nigerians not to despair despite the bad situation urging them to go for food items that can improve their emotional well-being and make them happy.
Such foods according to her help enhance dopamine in the human brain.
Dopamine is a chemical found naturally in the human body. It is a neurotransmitter, meaning it sends signals from the body to the brain.
Dopamine plays a part in controlling the movements a person makes, as well as their emotional responses. The right balance of dopamine is vital for both physical and mental well-being.
Sodipo who has been in the food business for several years said many people are psychologically down adding however that the situation in the country is not beyond control if people do things within their income.
“Despite the harsh economy, I believe people can still, within their income eat well and eat right. I recommend that people should take advantage of beans in this season and other seasonal fruits.
“Beans and other food rich in protein improve our DOPAMINE. By focusing on plenty of proteins like beans and fish we stand a chance of improving our emotional state and our health by extension.” She said
She explains further, “Dopamine helps activate your sense of pleasure. It also increases alertness and concentration, and improves reaction time. Get a boost through food: To help your body produce dopamine, eat plenty of protein, such as fish.”
According to her, “the knowledge people should seek to have is what to eat; how to eat it and when to eat. Healthy lifestyle is not expensive. Food comes in seasons. They are cheap when they are in season. Presently some vegetables and fruits are in season and are very cheap, you cannot eat too much, explore food in their season. It helps to boost our immune. Recently I bought a basket full of fresh tomatoes at N800. It may be hard to believe but that is the truth.”
She counseled that people also need to learn natural ways of preserving foods adding that Bible has an amazing list of foods we should eat and we should not eat.
While noting that Ile -epo market in Lagos is one of the places to get cheap foodstuffs, she said the lockdown has only affected catering business in the area of logistics.
