Church registration: Await further directive from us, Lagos PFN tells members

The Lagos Chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria has told its members not to be in a hurry to register their churches with government as directed by the Lagos State Safety Commission

This directive was contained in a statement on Thursday by the chairman of the body, Bishop Sola Ore.

It will be recalled that the Lagos State Safety Commission had on Wednesday June 3, said it has commenced the registration of religious centres, social centres and other private enterprises that were shut down by the state government to curtail the spread of the global pandemic

The Director-General of the commission, Lanre Mojola,  reportedly said the registration is in line with the directive of the state government.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the Lagos State governor, earlier said that the state is moving to fully reopen its economy and this will be done through the “Register-to-open” initiative.

Sanwo-Olu said the Lagos State Safety Commission (LSSC) and the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) would assess the level of readiness of businesses and duly register them before they are allowed to operate.

Following the directive of the state governor, the safety commission said on Wednesday that it has started the e-registration in view of the Register-To-Open initiative of the Lagos State Government.

But the Chairman of the Lagos PFN, Bishop Ore in a terse message sent to members of the fellowship on Thursday said, “to as many that still believe in our leadership nobody should go and register anywhere until we give further directive. That is why we are an organization.”

Bishop Ore noted later in a telephone chat with Church Times  that the church was lumped with businesses stating however that he was not asking members to disobey government but that they should wait for further directive from the PFN.

He said he believed information concerning the church should be passed through the church.

On the guidelines given to churches for reopening, he said he could not give an immediate reaction on that stating that Christian Association of Nigeria was still deliberating on the matter.
