Excerpts of the review by Gbenga Osinaike at the public presentation of the book on October 21 2018

The book has a seemingly enchanting title: How to attract strange favour. A skeptic would readily dissect the word: strange and may want to look at the book from the point of view of somebody advocating for something that is not real but at best in the level of imagination.

There is tendency to also want to think anything strange should not be desired. The adjective, strange comes from the Latin word extraneous, meaning “foreign” or “external. It also means: 1. unusual and unexpected, or difficult to understand: 2. to feel uncomfortable and not normal or correct: 3. not known or familiar. The author however defines favour in the light of the word grace pointing out that both favour and grace are derivatives of the Greek word Charis. In specific term, Charis means grace, kindness and life.

Coming to the book proper the reader is confronted with an exegesis on strange favour and how to attract it. The book is more like a “how to” book. Apart from the surgical work done on the banner title, the author also creates space for other issues including: how to make your boss like you and how to attract and retain customers. And then the prayer points. I guess this is deliberate on the part of the author It’s what I will call a utility book packaged to serve several purposes.

With 19 chapters run over 128 pages the author attempts to deliver a one-stop solution to life’s issues. But then the reader is first attracted by the beautiful cover, the screaming title and then he looks through and sees the free flow of the text. I never got to see the hard copy before today but it would amaze you that I was able to read through the book in less than two hours on my phone. Not every book has such credentials.

The title is eye catching and alluring. You hardly want to pass by it. And then the beautiful layout. Talking about the content, the book can rightly be judged by its cover. It’s what you get outside of it that you get inside. The breezy packaging of the contents which makes for easy reading is enthralling.

The very first line in the first chapter confronts you with some kind of audacity. The author writes in the opening line: ..what you need is favour not labour. Such sweeping statement may be misunderstood by a naive reader. But then the author discreetly makes it clear that favour has both natural and supernatural dimensions. He explains that the natural one could be earned but the supernatural one is from above. In essence there are earned and unearned favour.

The strength of the book lies in its generous use of Bible characters to explain the truth about favour. I particularly find the author’s use of numerous Bible examples quite exciting. The examples stir faith in the reader and presents the reader with a tool with which to trust God. The case of Joseph is a ready one. The point is: you perhaps would not call a thing favour if there is no background to it.

In the first ten chapters or thereabout, the author makes case for favour. By the time the reader goes through these chapters the reader will begin to long to experience strange favour. But your excitement is immediately checked when you begin to read the factors that will make you a beneficiary of favour. In essence, favour does not come cheap. Though favour is freely given it is enhanced by certain character traits.

Chapter 13 of the book will certainly interest the reader. It talks about how to identify and locate your destiny helpers while 14 is on how to attract your destiny helpers. In chapters 15 and 16 the author also gives tips on how to attract strange favour. In chapter 17 the author itemizes what and what you would do to identify and retain your customer while in chapter 18 he presents a thesis on how to get the attention of your boss. And then the prayer points.

Though the book presents favour as God-given, the reader is immediately confronted with practical things to do. It’s a to-do book couched in the matrix of the God factor. The content per chapter is not much words. I guess this is deliberate as it will help enhance easy reading.  It’s not just one of those books. It is a book that not only provokes you but stirs you to take some actions. I think you will do yourself a favour to get a copy of the book.
