OOU graduate shares experience as campus fellowship leader in new book…gives tips on how to combine academics with faith

A first-class graduate of Olabisi Onabanjo University, Oluwatise Osinaike has published a book chronicling her experience as a fellowship leader at Olabisi Onabanjo University and how she was able to combine her faith with academics.

The book, titled, Not My Will, reflections of a Campus Fellowship Leader is a 10-chapter book of about 80 pages.

Osinaike studied Pharmacology and currently doing her NYSC with Fidson Nigeria Plc.

She said she was inspired to write the book because of her conviction that being part of a faith group on campus does not in any way affect attaining excellence in one’s academics.

She said, “What the fellowship does is to help you to be focused and determined. When a student joins a fellowship group on campus, such student will be exposed to several brilliant people who are doing well academically. So, with such examples, you will have no option but to want to excel.”

Osinaike was a member of the Redeemed Christian Students Fellowship at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital where she spent the last three years of her studies.

She was the General Secretary of the fellowship; a position she noted was so demanding. “As General Secretary, a lot of things rest on you. Initially, I thought it was going to affect my grades. However, I discovered that it was when I became the GS that my grades improved. Apart from the grace of God which was the key to my success, there are practical things I had to do to attain that height,” she said.

The Book

The book is a documentation of her experience, the practical tips that will guarantee success, and how she was able to combine her studies with long hours of prayers and Bible study while on campus.

She noted that many students who are leaders in fellowship groups often do better because “usually they are not distracted. They streamline their time between fellowship and their academics. Such students don’t have time for parties and petty talks that kill their time. They are also goal-oriented.”

The book also explores other areas of fellowship life, the intrigues, the politics of managing people, and spiritual experiences while on campus.
