The chairman of the Local Organising Committee of the 24th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Ibadan, Architect Gbenga Barbington has said the nations of the world need more churches that will propagate the goodness of Christ despite the cry in some quarters that there are too many churches

He made his position known shortly after the Bishop’s charge at the Synod which took place at the St Stephen Cathedral, Inalende, Ibadan

According to him, the reason people are saying there are too many churches is the lack of impact of the Churches on the life of people.

‘But that should not stop the spread of the gospel and the creation of more churches. There is need to establish more churches to meet the growing demand and to fulfil the scriptures.

Babington who spoke exclusively with Church Times at the Synod said the Anglican Church is committed to reaching the unreached, especially in the rural areas.

He however pointed out that churches should not be established for the sake of it.. ‘The purpose of the church is to meet the spiritual needs of the people and satisfy their hunger for God. Churches should live to this billing.’

Need for synod

While speaking on one of the importance of the Synod, he noted that the gathering will help to generate resources to take the gospel of Christ further.

“We haven’t got enough churches because the scripture is very clear that before the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ there will be no human being on earth that would not have heard about Christ.

To fulfil that scriptures, we have to spread the gospel, established more churches for their stability and growth in faith so that there will be no excuse for anyone at His coming”.

Architect Gbenga who believe so much in the vision and direction of the Anglican Church and the Ibadan diocese expressed confidence that the right path for every church is to keep spreading the good news of Jesus.

This is the right path for any Church and one which the church must be committed unto. The scriptures must be fulfil on the spread of the gospel and this why the Anglican church is not just committed to opening new centres of worship but committed to preparing the people for His comings.

“We also need to know that until that scripture is fulfilled our Lord Jesus will not come because everything in the scripture must come to pass.’

Rural areas

He stressed, ‘We don’t have enough. If you go into the communities especially in rural areas you find out that people don’t want to journey so long to attend services and this could be an excuse for some.’

While noting that God is a righteous judge he said, ‘He will.always make a way for his word to spread. He will make all grace available so no one will have excuse.’

Barbington informed that the Anglican Church is committed to doing God’s will and taking the messages of Christ to all the nations”.
