Archbishop Godspower Akindor and Archbishop Paul Ude have appealed to the Federal government to give attention to the Warri-Benin Road.
The clerics whose ministries are situated in Sapele Delta State said in an interview with our correspondent that the road in question is due for resurfacing.
They said there is also a need for drainage on the road so that the repair work would last longer and it would be durable for road users.
Archbishop Akindor particularly noted that the current state of the dual carriageway is fair but not good enough for road users.
He said the government should give the job of working on the road to contractors who have a fair history of the soil.
“I call recall that Dumez Nig Limited worked on the road during the General Osagboro Ogbemudia reign as Governor of the then Bendel State. If the company is still around, they should be saddled with the responsibility of reworking the road. It is the work they did many years ago that has survived till this time.”
Also contributing, Archbishop Paul Ude who is a frequent user of the road said he was surprised that since the road was constructed during the Ogbemudia tenue, nothing has been done. “Ideally, if the road was not well done then, by now it would have collapsed.
“But then if any work is to be done on it, there must be a deliberate effort to do a proper drainage that would channel water appropriately”
He advised the government not to compromise quality in the construction of roads
“Although Federal road maintenance Agency may be trying their best, a reputable construction company is better used for a thorough job on our roads,” he said.
