World renowned Televangelist Jimmy Swaggart has slipped into eternity.

He died on Tuesday July 1 at his Louisiana home. He was 90 years old. He had suffered a cardiac arrest earlier this month

His ministry announced online, “Today, our hearts are heavy as we share that Brother Swaggart has finished his earthly race and entered into the presence of His Savior, Jesus Christ.

‘Today was the day he has sung about for decades. He met his beloved Savior and entered the portals of glory. At the same time, we rejoice knowing that we will see him again one day.”

Swaggart according to CBN News ‘had suffered cardiac arrest on June 15. Medical personnel were able to revive a heartbeat and rush him to the hospital. He then received further medical care but was unable to recover.

“For over seven decades, Brother Swaggart poured out his life preaching the gospel, singing songs of the faith, and pointing millions to the saving power of Jesus Christ and the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

‘His voice echoed through nations, his music softened hearts, and his message never changed: Jesus Christ and Him crucified,” the ministry announced.

it will be recalled that he faced one of the greatest scandals in history which had to do with sexual temptations. But he soon came out of it and was completely restored to his ministry.

The scandal

Wikipedia notes that On February 21, 1988, without giving any details regarding his transgressions, Swaggart delivered what came to be known as his “I have sinned” speech on live television.

‘ He spoke tearfully to his family, congregation, TV audience, and ended his speech with a prayer: “I have sinned against You, my Lord, and I would ask that Your Precious Blood … would wash and cleanse every stain until it is in the seas of God‘s forgetfulness never to be remembered against me anymore.”

‘The national presbytery of the Assemblies of God extended Swaggart’s suspension to their standard two-year suspension for sexual immorality. His return to the pulpit coincided with the end of the three-month suspension originally ordered by the denomination.

‘Believing that Swaggart was not genuinely repentant in submitting to their authority, the hierarchy of the Assemblies of God defrocked him and therein removed his credentials and ministerial license.

He subsequently ran an independent ministry and has since remained faithful preaching Jesus and leading many to Christ until his transition on Tuesday July 1.

Many will remember him as that preacher who preached with the whole of his heart, leading many to tears and repentance
