Pastor of Christ Apostolic Church Mount of Joy and Grace, Oluseyi Ogunbomehin who clocked 60 on June 25 but celebrated his birthday on June 28 got a shocking gift from his modest congregation during the celebration.
The gift which is a Toyota Highlander came as a shock to Pastor Ogunbohemehin because he could not comprehend how his seemingly small congregation could pull resources together to buy such car for him.
Before the car gift, Ogunbomehin said he was managing a car he inherited from his dad which developed issues repeatedly. The last time the vehicle had issue was on his way back from a journey outside Lagos.
While expressing shock as well as appreciation for the gift he told Church Times that he never expected that the church would go that length to task themselves to buy the car. ‘
The car gift was a shock to me. I did not imagine that they will go this far. I am really humbled and I can only pray for them.
“The gift brought tears to my eyes and it’s also an indication that church people appreciate their pastors. I am so certain they went out for their way to buy the vehicle. They made so much sacrifice. May God who has used them to be a blessing to me continue to bless them.’
Stir in church
The gift caused a bit of stir on the day of the celebration as the representative of the congregation asked Pastor Ogunbomehin to step out to collect it. The congregation was thrown into a frenzy..
The church member who spearheaded the contribution, Mrs Olajumoke Ogunsola Favour told Church Times that Pastor Ogunbomehin has been a huge blessing to the church .
She said, ‘He has rendered great service in this church.He has impacted countless lives both young and old . And this is a significant milestone in his life and it is an opportunity for us to express our gratitude for his dedication, hard work and spiritual guidance.we cannot afford to do less.’ she said..
According to her, the church cannot afford to do less than what was given. ‘It is just our mite to appreciate the amiable and amazing angel God sent to shepherd His church.’
On how the small congregation could raise funds to buy the gift, she said, ‘lt is the Lord ‘s doing and it is marvelous in our sight..Though we are small but we are mighty in Christ.. That has been the style of our God in this church. He always turns the little we have to plenty,
‘He did it when our father Prophet Isaiah Olufayobi Ogunbomehin of blessed memory who is the father of our present pastor. God used him to pioneer the CAC Babalola Memorial Camp lkeji Arakeji where the church university is located..
‘God helped him with few members to put up 2-storey building which was rare at that time. That building still competes with the modern structures now.. Our God is still at work.’
