Abioye’s old message, ‘building won’t take you to heaven’ trends

An old message by Bishop David Abioye erstwhile pastor in the Winners Chapel, where he decried the practice of spending too much on church building at the detriment of building people is now widely being circulated on social media.

The message started gaining momentum days after Abioye began his ministry.

But his non appearance at the winners’ yearly Shiloh programme made netizens share the video the more.

In the message, Abioye asked, ‘Did God send you to be building churches? Did he send you? Did he send you? He asked again, ‘Did he call your mission church building?’

In trying to respond to his poser, he said, ‘It’s people building we are called to do. Building wont take us to heaven. It is people that will go to heaven.’

Abioye then pleaded in the message saying, ‘ let’s get back to our track. I am pleading and challenging pastors and admonishing pastors and leaders, lets get back.

‘People need from us more than we are giving them. Let’s show them that what is right otherwise the evil will overwhelm them and soon come to erode us.’

Findings by Church Times showed that the message was one of Abioye’s messages while he was still in the Living Faith Church, also known as Winners Chapel..

Some believe his retirement from Winners Chapel was not proper due to his commitment to the church as the next in command to the founder, Bishop David Oyedepo.

His absence from the Shiloh programme has also been interpreted to mean he was not happy with his retirement. Dino Melaye, a former lawmaker said in a Facebook post that he was not disposed to going for Shiloh because Abioye was retired.

He expressed displeasure at his retirement since Bishop Oyedepo who is older than Abioye is still in the system..
