President of the Christian Association of Nigeria Archbishop Daniel Okoh has distanced himself from the Campaign Council List of the All Progressive Congress

The president made this known in a statement made available to Church Times on Thursday, October 20.

He also promised to probe the officials of the body on the list.

Some of the National officers of CAN on the list include Abiodun Sanyaolu, (Assistant General Secretary)  Bishop Stephen Adegbite, (Director of National Issues, and Social welfare), and Barrister Comfort Chiqbue. (Director of Legal issues and Public Affairs).  These officers have about two weeks remaining for them to serve in the National Body of the association.

Ex-CAN officers on the list are Dr. Testimony Onifade Barrister Samuel Kwankor, Dr. Victor Ivoke, and Dr. Para Mallam.

It will be noted that Bishop Adegbite who is a national officer is also the Chairman of the Lagos Chapter of the Christian body. He was quoted as saying, “God will not forgive me if I do not vote for Asiwaju  Bola Tiinubu”

Okoh in his reaction to the list said. “My attention as President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has been drawn to the revised list of members of the Tinubu/Shettima 2023 President Campaign Council wherein the names of some outgoing officials of the body were featured.

He described the development as worrisome because “it counters the well-known stance of CAN on partisanship.”

He then exonerated himself from the list. He stated, “I want to categorically exonerate my humble self from this development and any of such that may occur in the future.”

Okoh said further, Since I received the news,  I have commenced  a full investigation into how the officials got involved in overt partisanship.”

After the investigation, he said, “CAN will take fair, but decisive and appropriate action with a view to defending the ideals of the umbrella Christian body”

He then urged the public to be calm “while we collectively work to entrench a culture of inclusion and respect for our religious diversities in our political leadership.”WP
