The former head of the Department of Religious Studies, Olabisi Onabanjo University, Professor Mrs. Olatundun Oderinde has said the Church would have failed God if it fails to tell truth to power
Oderinde made the submission at the 30th convocation lecture of The Apostolic Church Nigeria LAWNA Theological Seminary, Ayegbaju Ilesa Osun State on Friday, October 22
The OOU don spoke on the topic THEOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS OF UNITY FOR CHURCH SUSTAINABILITY
She said the country needs bold and fearless church leaders who can speak the truth to politicians.
Her words, “We need someone who is that bold like Elijah to tell the politicians that they are the ones troubling Nigeria. They need to repent. They need to have a mindset that is willing to serve not to extort and oppress the people.
The role of the Church is, to tell the truth always to those who are ruling us. If the Church fails to perform that role they would have failed God. The church needs to continue to point out to the politicians their evil ways and the need for them to repent and rule in the fear of God. If if the Church is not doing that, then the church would have failed God”.
Oderinde also took a swipe at church leaders noting that many are self-centered.
She however called for prayers for the leaders in the Church noting that their selfishness is affecting the unity of the Church of Christ.
