The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Mr Omoyele Sowore on Sunday October 4 took to his social media handle to share his encounter with Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God.
He recounted his meeting with Pastor Adeboye shortly after the National Thanksgiving service hosted at the headquarters of the Church.
While disclosing that he went to the church on invitation alongside the National Chairman of his party, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe., he said “After the service, I had a private meeting and conversation with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who offered to pray for me.
“He stated that he follows my activities religiously, expressed certainty that my path is honorable, and said he is confident of my triumph.”
Sowore stated further that the meeting with Pastor Adeboye was the second of such at the same venue. “Our first meeting was in 1996, shortly after I completed my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC). And met him while mobilizing the unlicensed Against Deadly Campus Cultism and The Free Reigns of Cult Gangs.
“Thirty years later, we met again at the same place. I deeply appreciate the warm reception of members of the church, and our private conversation, and his prayers. It is important to state that my visit was not intended to promote a political agenda.”
But some of his followers on social media criticised his visit noting that if other presidential candidates had visited Pastor. Adeboye, he would have criticised them..
An X user, Clean Tech Believer wrote, “It is important to state that my visit was not intended to promote a political agenda.”……..,
I hope you extend the same grace to other politicians who visit churches if I judge you by the same standard you judge other politicians.
“For the past 4 years, you never attended any church, until 3 months to election”. We all know what we are doing by the way.”
Some however praised him for taking the step of going to church . One commentator, Richard Kumle wrote, ” It Is good to know that Sowore goes to church. It made me love him the more. You are my person’
Mr Sowore had in the past shared how he was a member of the Deeper Life Campus Fellowship while in his first two years at the University of Lagos.
