The national body of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has expressed deep concern over the state of insecurity and the parlous condition of Nigeria’s economy while simultaneously declaring a three-day national fasting and prayer programme.
The National Publicity Secretary of the fellowship, Dr. Sylvanus O. Ukafia, announced in a statement that the prayer event, which will hold from Friday, May 22 to Sunday, May 24, will be solely devoted to praying for the peace, healing, stability, and future of Nigeria.
According to him, the decision to hold the event was reached during a recent meeting of the fellowship’s National Executive Council.
The fellowship, he said, is deeply concerned about the current state of the nation. “The PFN notes with grave concern the growing insecurity across the country, persistent violence and bloodshed, attacks on communities and places of worship, economic hardship confronting millions of Nigerians, rising social tensions, and anxieties surrounding the nation’s political future and upcoming elections,” Ukafia stated.
He stated further that “As a body deeply committed to the spiritual health, unity, peace, and progress of Nigeria, the Fellowship believes that this is a defining moment for the Church to rise in unity and intercession for the nation.”
The PFN stated that the fasting and prayer exercise will coincide with the observance of Global Pentecost Day and is anchored on the divine instruction in 2 Chronicles 7:14, which calls on God’s people to humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways so that He may heal the land.
The body urged all Christians across the nation to participate actively and prayerfully in this solemn spiritual exercise. The first two days—Friday, May 22 and Saturday, May 23—are designated for fasting and prayer within homes, churches, and local assemblies nationwide.
On Sunday, May 24, 2026, which marks Global Pentecost Day, believers in every state are expected to gather at venues designated by PFN State Executives for a united national prayer assembly to conclude the exercise.
During the programme, the body is expected to intercede for divine intervention in Nigeria, the restoration of peace and security across the land, and an end to bloodshed, among other pressing issues.
While noting that Nigeria remains a nation of great destiny and immense possibilities, the fellowship expressed hope that through sincere repentance, unity, righteousness, and prayer, God will renew the country.
