The National President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN), Bishop Francis Wale Oke, has stated that the proposed anti-bus evangelism law awaiting the approval of President Bola Tinubu will not stand.
​He described those behind the law as evil people who risk the wrath of God if they do not repent.
Bishop Oke made this known in a message posted on his social media handle on Sunday, August 2.
​According to him, what is playing out in Nigeria is similar to the scenario in the Book of Acts, when the disciples of Jesus were instructed not to preach the Gospel.
He said that just as the apostles resisted the law—stating they could not help but preach what they had seen and heard “Pentecostals in Nigeria will not obey the anti-bus evangelism law if passed”
​”All Pentecostals should be free to preach in buses and taxis,” he said adding, “Let them turn all the stadiums in Nigeria into prisons if they want to enforce the law, because we will break it. We will preach in buses. We will preach everywhere.”
​While emphasising that those behind the law are evil people issuing evil decrees, he stated, “We would rather obey God than man. That is what our fathers taught us back in the day. You had better tell them: no PFN member must listen to them.”
​The PFN leader wondered why the government is not going after the kidnappers and bandits ravaging the country, but instead seems concerned with people preaching on buses.
​His words, “You don’t go after kidnappers. You are going after us, who are preaching the Gospel that changes lives. We won’t listen to you because you are not God. You are only there for a tenure, and you will be wiped out—all of you.”
​The cleric expressed the belief that the law targets Christians, fuming, “We are unstoppable. What kind of evil is that? Those who were kidnapped in Borno and many other places have not been rescued, yet you are here oppressing us.”
