Olakunle, NPM secretary gets police community relations award

The Secretary of the National Prayer Movement, Mr. Gbemiga Olakunle has been honoured by the Oyo State Chapter of The Police Community Relations Committee ( PCRC)

He was given the honour on Thursday May 16 at an impressive ceremony in Ibadan Oyo State.

He was honoured as one of the Patrons of the organisation for his selfless work in building a viable community

A couple of other people were also honoured along with him.

At the event, the Commissioner of Police Oyo State with two of his Senior Police Officers were not left out among the recipients of the Prestigious Awards of another Category.

Chief Dr. Abraham Oyeladun Oladokun got the award on behalf of Olakunle just as Aseyin of Iseyin also sent an ally to collect the Award on his behalf.

Earlier before the occasion, the PCRC, Iseyin Area Command had also appointed Olakunle as their Life Patron covering 7 Police Divisions in Iseyin and Itesiwaju Local Government Areas of Oyo State.

About Olakunle

63-year-old Gbemiga Olakunle was born n Ado- Awaye , Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State where he also had his Priimary.and secondary school education. He subsequently attended University of Ilorin, Kwara State where he graduated with a B.SC in Geography in 1987.

But before his tertiary education, he worked briefly at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, Idi- Araba in the Committee & Planning Unit of the Administration Department as Clerical Officer – a position/ an exposure that had sharpened his Administrative Skills in the subsequent roles he later found himself.

He is an Author, Newspaper Columnist and a prolific writer who has written more than 200 articles published online and in some magazines and national newspapers including the Guardian, the Punch, Tribune, Blueprints, and the defunct Daily Times and the Concord, to mention a few.

In his zeal for a National Rebirth for the country through Prayer mobilisation, he teamed up with Ministers of GOD such as Pastor E. A. Adeboye, Rev.Dr. G. Olu Farombi, Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, Rev. Moses Aransiola , Rev. Austen C. Ukachi, etc and other Professionals with Academic, Banking, Military/Police and Media backgrounds that cut across Church denominations to form the National Prayer Movement in 1990.

He is still serving as the Visionary and General Secretary of the group till date, by GOD’S Grace.


At the beginning of the New Millineum in year 2000 , he participated in the Holy Pilgrimage to Israel – a trip that was sponsored by the Alhaji Lam Adesina led Administration of Oyo State thereby qualified him to be called a Jerusalem Pilgrim, JP.

Subsequently, from 2001- 2003 he served at The Presidency as a Member in a Presidential Committee – Basic Metals Sector Steering Committee that was inaugurated by the then Vice- President, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar.

It is the good will of his membership of this Presidential Committee that he has been leveraging upon to facilitate Federal Government projects in the areas of Power, Road/ Bridge Rehabilitation, Water/ Dam, Sanitation and the Construction of the Ultra Modern Police Station with Barrack.

The facility was commissioned on the 30th of December, 2022 by the then Inspector- General of Police Usman Alkali Baba ably represented by the Deputy Inspector- General of Police- Kokumo, Rtd at a very colourful occasion.

The event was well attended by some Traditional Rulers, VIPs, Members of the PCRC in Oyo State with a large turn out from the residents of Ado- Awaye and its environs.
