Memorise Psalm 91, don’t just read it-Joseph Prince

by Church Times

Celebrated grace teacher, Pastor Joseph Prince has advised believers to memorize Psalm 91 stressing that they should ‘not just read it’

Prince is the evangelist and senior pastor of New Creation Church based in Singapore.[ He was one of the church’s founders in 1983.

He made the submission on Psalm 91 recently in a message posted on his Facebook timeline.

He said Psalm 91 though in the old testament, is a new testament Psalm that God inspired David to write.

Some scholars believe it was written by Moses.   But Prince in the message said he believed it was written by David adding that the Psalm is full of inspired words that can banish anxiety in the lives of the believer.

He shared a personal experience that he was inspired to go back to the Psalm when covid-19 was ravaging everywhere.

‘when the covid-19 was killing people and I was listening to the reports, fear rose within me. But I quickly attacked the fear with Psalm 91. It is an antidote to fear.’

He said it is not surprising that the emergency number of the US is 911.

He explained that it could mean Psalm 91v1 adding also that the Psalm is a Psalm of comfort and rescue. ‘it gives you confidence as you recite it that no evil will come near you. It is a Psalm of assurance and confidence. It is a Psalm of security,’ he said.

He cited the example of a world war 1 general in the British Army who got soldiers in his battalion to recite the Psalm during the war and that he did not lose a single person in his battalion during the war.

Prince during the message got his son to recite the Psalm urging believers to make the reading of Psalm 91 a family affair.

‘Get your family to recite this Psalm. Use it to pray. But more importantly memorise it. Let it be in your head and recite it anytime you have fear and anxiety.:
