General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye has said “if the lockdown would lead to greater achievement so be it”
He made the declaration while delivering his message at the July Holy Ghost Night of the church.
Some Church leaders are however clamouring for an end to the lockdown.
Adeboye who spoke on the topic “let there be light part 7” sees the lockdown from another perspective noting it could turn out to be a time of greater blessings.
He had earlier warned his listeners against making wrong choices citing the instances of Lot, Samson and Naaman in the Bible.
He said some people have made dangerous choices that have terminated their destinies and thus rendered them useless.
On Lot, he said, “He did not take anything from the land of Sodom and Gomorrah, not even his wife because of the wrong choice of land he made.”
On Gehazi, Adeboye said he collected gifts from Naaman contrary to the instructions of Elisha his master while Samson also made a wrong choice of women.
All the choices according to him led to a downturn in the lives of these Bible characters.
Lockdown examples from the Bible
As the message progressed, however, he said there is a history of people who were on lockdown in the Bible who came out victorious and more prosperous. He said if people know that this lockdown would lead to greater achievement and prosperity they will embrace it with joy.
He cited the example of Joseph who was locked down in prison but at the end became the Prime Minister of Egypt.
Quoting scriptures, he said David was being locked down in the cave of Adullam with over 400 men who were riff raffs but who later turned to mighty men.
John the beloved also experienced God in a special way during a lockdown. He said it was during John’s lockdown on the Island of Patmos that God gave him the revelation of the end contained in the book of Revelation.
Adeboye said God may need to lock some people down so that his purpose might be fulfilled in their lives.
He cited the example of a man who wanted to join the army and his mother said to him, being the only son, that he should wait till she died and then he could join the army.
Adeboye said in that year all the colleagues of the man who joined the army died in the civil war.
Today, the man who obeyed his mother not to join the army “has become a successful minister of the gospel.” Pastor Adeboye said.
While urging his listeners to pray that this lockdown would lead to greater prosperity, he noted that “God has been closer to someone more in this lockdown than ever.”
He then warned against those who say Jesus had done everything and that there is no price to pay any longer as believers
Recalling his sporting days he said his coach once said to him “they will tell you that all that matters in a game is to participate not necessarily that you win.”
The coach then told him “next time they say that ask them, why don’t they give medals to those who fail.”
The RCCG General Overseer then said, while bringing his message to a close that he made up his mind many years ago as a young Christian to be the very best, “not to be just among the best”
