CAN ON COZA
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has described any form of rape as ungodly wicked and reprehensible.
In a statement signed on June 29 by its publicist, Mr. Bayo Oladeji, the body condemned the crime stating that “it doesn’t matter who is involved. It is ungodly, wicked, and reprehensible.”
It however declined to make any categorical statement on the case of the Senior Pastor of Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, Abiodun Fatoyinbo stating that it has no detail apart from what is being read on the social media.
While declaring that social media information is not reliable and credible evidence enough to jump into a conclusion on the matter, the statement informed that the “CAN Leadership, therefore, has reached out to the leadership of the block which the Pastor in question belongs with a view to getting to the root of the matter.”
The Pastor belongs to the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria. It is expected that the chairman of the body in Abuja would feed CAN with its findings before CAN could make any categorical statement on the matter.
The statement of CAN might have been prompted by the avalanche of request by the restless social media interlopers who felt Pastor Fatoyinbo should be suspended from CAN or sanctioned for his moral excesses.
It is instructive to note that CAN has no statutory mandate to deal with erring members if its attention is not called to such matter.

The Church of the erring member is the primary place of recourse. It is the church that would invite the block which it belongs to if it feels the need for such interference. If the block cannot handle the matter it can then approach CAN for help.
