The  Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has condemned the unprovoked attacks and killing of several innocent worshippers at the St Francis Catholic Church, Owa-luwa Street, Owo

The attack was also condemned by the governor of Ekiti State, Dr. Kayode Fayemi

CAN in a statement signed by Pastor Adebayo Oladeji urged  security agencies to apprehend the gunmen noting that there is no explanation for this unprovoked attack and assault on a place of worship.

‘This is raw persecution. These people are possessed, demonic and are not working for the good of the country. May God descend heavily on them and fight these  mindless agents of Satan from their roots in Jesus’ name.’ the statement reads in part.

The association also called on President Muhammadu Buhari to stop the recycling of those criminals and terrorists in the name of de-radicalising programme.

‘If the programme is not counterproductive, how come the criminalities are always on the increase and nowhere is safe again.
This menace of insecurity has gotten out of hands and is embarrassingly sore.

‘Criminals are operating with impunity all over the country and unfortunately our government appears to be so busy with the 2023 general election that it has no time for the unending killings in the country.’

The body sympathised with families of victims While calling on  the State Governors to meet with the President to find the lasting solution to these killings.

Also the Governor of Ekiti State and Presidential Aspirant of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr Kayode Fayemi, described the attack as vile and callous.

In  a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode, the governor stated  there can never be any justification for the heinous behaviour of the assailants.

Fayemi commiserated with the Governor of Ondo State, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), the people of Ondo State over the sad incident.

He urged security agencies in the state to ensure that the perpetrators of the crime are apprehended and made to face the full wrath of the law. He also tasked them to remain vigilant.

In solidarity with the sister state, the governor according to the statement had  directed the Ekiti State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Banji Filani, to immediately send human and medical resources to Ondo State.
