Former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has stated that he was already a Professor of Law before he became born again.
He made the.disclosure during a recent panel session hosted by Pastor Charles Osazuwa, where he addressed the issue of prosperity alongside Pastor Olumide Emmanuel and Pastor Korede Komaiya.
Osinbajo, who placed significant emphasis on the need for the Church to prioritize the poor in their giving, remarked that he did not know Christ early enough and noted that he admires those who do.
He said: “I was already a Professor of Law before I became born again. I was not just a Professor of Law; I specialized in the Law of Evidence. That means I spent my entire professional life researching and teaching proof—the idea that you must hear, see, and touch before you can believe—until God showed me the evidence of things that are not seen.”
Explaining that this background is the reason he is so passionate about the gospel, he added: “I can’t stand a situation where the gospel is being bastardized because I came from a totally different place regarding my beliefs. So, I am passionate that we must not bastardize the gospel.”
He noted that many pastors do not emphasize what Jesus emphasized while on earth. “If you read through the New Testament, you will see the sheer number of times Jesus said giving to the poor is giving to Him. You wonder why our pastors are not teaching that.”
Osinbajo, who has been in ministry since 1996, added that there is no such thing as a “prosperity gospel.” Rather, he argued, it is the right teaching of the gospel that will make a difference in people’s lives.
For his part, Pastor Emmanuel called for balance in gospel teachings, noting that the separation of state and church is the genesis of the crisis currently facing Nigeria.
Pastor Komaiya in his submission made a case for the church not to despise money, citing how money was used to bribe the guards at Jesus’ tomb to claim his body had been stolen.
