Money is not the primary need of the gospel – Toyin Kehinde

by Church Times

The Convener of the Global Mandate Conference, Rev. Toyin Kehinde, has stated that money is not the primary need of the gospel as some erroneously believe but rather God’s supernatural power and anointing.

He made this point during the two-day Global Mandate Conference, which wraps up on Friday, February 20.

About 200 missionaries from across Nigeria and Africa attended the event. Participants who traveled from outside Lagos will stay back for medicals and recreation on Saturday, February 21, before departing on Sunday, February 22.

The Necessity of Power

In his message, Kehinde emphasized that God’s power is critical for those seeking to excel in ministry.

”You can’t preach without power. Jesus knew the urgency of the message, but He told the disciples to tarry in Jerusalem and be endued with power. You can go on missions without money, but you can’t go without power. Money is not your problem; lack of power is your problem,” he said.

However, he warned against gimmicks and what he termed “arrangee” testimonies and miracles. He recalled a crusade where certain individuals approached him, offering to act as if they had been healed to “boost” the event’s profile.

”I had to turn down the offer because I carry the genuine power of God that can heal and deliver. You don’t need to fake it. You don’t need to lie that a miracle happened when it did not. That is not the kind of thing I am talking about. I am talking about the genuine power of God that heals and delivers.”

Impact on the Field

He shared a testimony of how his ministry was able to penetrate a remote village in Lagos that had previously been opposed to the gospel.

”They initially turned us back and said they didn’t want the gospel in that village. But one of our brothers went back to the village and started selling basic things that the villagers needed. Not long after that, the wife of the village head fell sick and there was no hospital to run to. This brother offered to pray, and the village head agreed. His wife was healed after the prayers. That miracle changed their disposition to the gospel. Today, the gospel is being preached in that village.”

Defining True Power

Still emphasizing the need for the supernatural, Rev. Kehinde stated that power has nothing to do with mere emotion.

”Power is not just speaking in tongues and shaking of the body. It is about carrying the presence of God. Great power means the courage to stand and declare the Word of God; it means the anointing to heal the sick and speak the word that will transform lives.”

He recalled miraculous interventions on the mission field in Warangal, India, and how God proved Himself among the people, while urging missionaries to ensure they spend consistent time with God to be endued by Him.
