I will die at a good old age says Mama Fashoyin as rumour of her death spreads

by Church Times

Music legend, Evangelist Deborah Fashoyin has said she would die at a good old age and die empty just as rumour of her death spread like wild fire.

She celebrated her 86th birthday on March 1

The internet was flooded with news of her death on Sunday March 15, coming from supposedly reliable sources. But the renowned evangelist who popularised the song, Odun lo sopin (The year is coming to an end) took to the social media on Monday March 16 to tell the world that she is hale and hearty

She however did not castigate those who initiated the rumour of her passing.

Beaming with smile she said. ‘I am happy to tell you I am hale and hearty what you’re seeing on Facebook is fake. And i know I will finish strong and empty with supernatural sound health.

“I will go to my fathers in peace. Not In sickness not in pain and I will die at a good old age just like my father abraham “

Mama Fashoyin as she is fondly called is the leader of the renowned C.A.C. (Christ Apostolic Church) Good Women Choir, Ibadan.

She and the choir are most famous for popularizing the song, Odun Lo Sopin. She once said in early 2025 that she didn’t actually compose the track.

According to her, the chorus was a traditional revival song used in various C.A.C. churches in Ibadan during the 1970s. She and her choir simply “repackaged” it by adding two verses and recording it in 1979.

The Song: Odun n lo Sopin (The year is coming to an end) is a timeless Yoruba gospel anthem, traditionally played in Nigeria during the transition into a New Year.
