A Catholic Priest, Rev Fr Anthony Otegbola has identified top needs of the some poor and helpless people in any society while also urging people who are comfortable to extend their hands of fellowship to them
He.identifed those needs in a statement circulated among Catholic faithful while also urging them to respond to those needs.
The most important of the needs according to Otegbola is love . He said a man who is at disadvantage as regards resources needs love .
Apart from love he stated that they need affection, attention and money in that order.
He said further that poor people need food and they also needed to be shown some hospitality and encouragement.’
While noting that they also need spiritual advice he said, ‘Poor people need your smile. They need your patience and they need your honesty’
He said people who are privileged in the society should be loyal to those who have no means by showing some form of commitment to them and also be ready to always forgive their indiscretion.
Beyond that Otegbola stated that the poor also love to be corrected ‘They need your correction because they don’t want to be ruderless..
Above all, Otegbola who is the Parish Priest of St Mary Catholic Church, Alaja, Ifo, Ogun State said ‘the poor need your time and company’
While urging people who want to help the poor not to think of money alone he said those points he mentioned will go a long way to make money gift meaningful to the poor. ‘Beyond giving money, it’s important we make them feel like human beings and not despise them. That is when our money gift will be meaningful.’
