Address poverty, hunger when sworn in as president-Group tells Tinubu

by Church Times

A non-denominational Christian group, Christian Conscience, has enjoined the declared winner of the 2023 presidential election, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu to make the plight of the poor and needy a priority when he is sworn in as the President and  Commander in Chief of the nation.

The group gave the call in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunji Oguntuase.

While congratulating Asiwaju Tinubu on his performance at the polls, the group urged him to spread his tentacles to all.

It recalled that Tinubu had done well as the governor of Lagos State, noting however that with his emergence as President-elect, all eyes will be on him both within the country and outside.

“Just like Abraham in the Bible who was the father of Nations, Asiwaju Tinubu should see himself as the father of all and ensure that the lingering suffering in the land is tackled head-on. Let the administration be fair, just and God fearing in all policies and actions.”

The statement reads,  “Don’t be a winner takes all President, but form a Government of inclusiveness where Nigerians will have a sense of belonging.”

The organisation also noted there is a  need to douse the tension in the land and address issues of poverty, infrastructure, and unemployment in the country.

While congratulating Lagosians for their peaceful conduct during the Presidential elections last week, the group further enjoined the electorates to vote for continuity in Lagos so that more dividends of democracy will be enjoyed by the people.

We enjoined Lagosians to continue to live in peace and in harmony. We should not allow elections to divide us. Nations can only progress in the midst of love, the group added.
