An Iranian pastor, Ara Torosian, has shared his perspective on the death of the country’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Khamenei, and why some Iranians were rejoicing.
He spoke during a chat with the Christian Broadcasting Network, monitored by Church Times Nigeria.
In the interview, Torosian explained that the people who rejoiced over the death of the Supreme Leader were not celebrating his death itself. He said, “We are not celebrating the death of Ayatollah Khamenei. What the people are celebrating is hope. What happened in the country gives us hope as human beings.”
He noted that for decades, Iranians have suffered under oppression and dictatorship. “There was no freedom for us. I think, as Christians, according to Isaiah 1:17, we are commanded to seek justice,” he added.
Torosian also expressed regret over the casualties that occurred since the United States intervened in the country, stating, however, that the developments in the country are a welcome development.
“This is what Iranians asked for. The people of Iran were desperate for help. This intervention is very unique. We knew we needed assistance. Trump came to help us dislodge the oppressors. We could not have done that ourselves,” he said.
While praying for peace in Iran and protection for its people, Torosian emphasised, “People wondered why we danced when Ayatollah Khamenei died. We didn’t dance because he was killed. We danced because, after decades of dictatorship, this regime of repression is leaving Iran forever. We are thankful for what is happening. This is a unique season for us.”
