The Anglican Bishop of Oyo South Diocese, the Rt Revd Dr Olufemi Familoni, has expressed thanks to God for sparing his life to witness his 60th birthday and the grace to be an instrument in the hands of God

Bishop Familoni made the remarks shortly after his 60th birthday thanksgiving service on Thursday January 22

The event was celebrated with a thanksgiving service at the Cathedral Church of St John, Akinmoorin, in Oyo State and the dedication of the renovated Bishop’s court

The thanksgiving service was presided over by the Archbishop of Ibadan Ecclesiastical Province of the Church of Nigeria, the Most Revd Dr Williams Aladekugbe, who also delivered the sermon

Call to commitment

.In his exhortation, the Archbishop urged Bishop Familoni to remain steadfast in service to God and to continue to lead with gratitude and obedience.

“The number of heartbeats from the day of your birth to this day is a reminder that God loves and cares for you,” Archbishop Aladekugbe said, encouraging the celebrant to remain committed to God’s will.

As part of the celebrations, the Archbishop, alongside other eminent bishops in attendance, dedicated the newly renovated and furnished Bishop’s Court.

The facility was upgraded with modern facilities, with a refurbished chapel, measures aimed at improving sustainability and supporting the administrative and pastoral work of the diocese.

Bishop’s court

Bishop Familoni, who was consecrated and enthroned as the pioneer bishop of the Diocese of Oyo South in November 2025 by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Revd Henry Ndukuba, said the upgraded Bishopscourt would strengthen his episcopal mission and enhance the church’s outreach.

“We are only vessels for God’s work, and all that we are able to do is for His glory,” he said. “Our work in this diocese is just beginning, and by God’s help, we shall succeed.”

The thanksgiving service was attended by nine bishops from across the Church of Nigeria, who paid tribute to Bishop Familoni, describing him as generous and committed to the growth of the church.

Gratitude

Speaking alongside his wife, Dr Mrs Modupe Familoni, and other family members, the bishop expressed gratitude to God for his life, strength and recent elevation to the episcopacy, describing the occasion as a moment of reflection and renewed dedication to service.

Born on 22 January 1966 to the family of Pa Gabriel Ibitoye Familoni Dynasty of Ido-Ekiti, Bishop Familoni is a cleric, astute visionary and transformation leader, administrator per excellence, and Chartered Human Resources practitioner.
