The Christian Association of Nigeria has expressed the hope that Nigerians will not miss the opportunity of the 2023 elections to choose leaders that have focus and that are committed to a new nation.
The body expressed the hope in a statement signed by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh.
CAN said, “despite the challenges Nigeria has faced in recent times, 2023 remains a year of golden opportunities for us as a people. I pray that Nigerians will not miss or misuse the opportunity to choose leaders with focus and compassion who will lead our country to greatness.”
While wishing Nigerians a happy new year, the body in the statement also assured Nigerians that “2023 will be the year of a turnaround” in nation’s fortune.”
CAN noted that 2022 was one too many as a result of the seeming unabated climate of fear and uncertainty across the world.
The body however noted there was still cause to thank God given God’s kindness and faithfulness in the past year.
The Christian body appealed to all security agencies not to relent in their efforts to ensure safety and security in the country. It called on government to also ensure the conduct of a peaceful general elections in the days ahead.
It counseled politicians to be more responsible in playing politics with the best interest of the masses at heart.
Religious leaders according to CAN should also know that there is life after the general elections of 2023. “Our speeches and conduct should focus on encouraging our people to build a Nigeria where equity, justice, and fairness will reign supreme.” CAN stated.
It called for prayer for the political class while also assuring that it will “continue to partner with government, civil societies, and development partners to build a peaceful and prosperous country.”
