“Let’s show love to one another despite challenging times”

by Church Times

Founder of Christ In All Nations International Ministries, Dr Timi Ajayi, has called on Nigerians to show empathy and love to one another despite the challenging times.

Ajayi gave the charge in a statement made available to Church Times celebrating International Peace Day on Thursday, September 21.

While noting that peace is strategic to development he said, the time has come for us as a nation to show love for one another. “It is when we exhibit love for one another that we can make visible progress. Love will not make us do things that will harm our neighbour.

“Love will keep the politician in check and make them think of the people rather than their own pockets and survival. Love is a powerful weapon if we can embrace it. Many are suffering today because they are victims of the heartless leaders in the society.” he said

He noted that the objective of the Peace Day was to recognize individual and collective responsibility to foster peace in society.

Ajayi also urged all African countries to shun any attempt at frustrating democracy. “While we do not encourage any military takeover, we are also calling on politicians to play by the rules during elections. We do not support any attempt to truncate our democracy. Our leaders must also shun practices that tend to invite the military. Let us play by the rules of democracy, ” he said.

He called on the government to give priority to the welfare of the masses and implement people-oriented policies that would deal with the root of poverty in the land.

Talking on the theme of this year’s International Peace Day “Actions for Peace: Our Ambition for the #GlobalGoals.” he said Nigerians need to take practical steps to ensure peace in the nation.

Ajayi said justice is critical to a peaceful society. “If people can’t get justice, it will be hard to talk about peace. A peaceful nation is a product of a nation where justice is valued. Our government needs to wake up. Our judicial system needs to make justice a priority. The police must play their roles in ensuring peace. The reign of peace in any society is a collective function of every citizen.”

If and when we love ourself and we have peace within, extending the love to our neighbours won’t be a difficult task and the society will be a better place to live in. When there is peace within us, there will be peace in our world.
