Birthplace crucial to destiny- Tunde Bakare
Serving Overseer of Citadel Global Community Church, Pastor Tunde Bakare took to his church’s Facebook platform today June 14 to announce the birth of his first grandchild with a lot of excitement and thanks to God.
In the online message monitored by Church Times, Bakare said his daughter put to bed a boy on June 12, noting that both mother and child are doing fine.
He described the development as significant in his life praying that the boy will one day grow up to listen to his message
With joy written all over him, he went on to explain that one’s place of birth “has grave consequence on one’s destiny. Where you are born is predictive of your future.”
Birthplace so important
He explained that one’s birthplace is so important that the passport that every citizen carries is owned by the government of that country.
He recalled how his passport was seized by the government of President Olusegun Obasanjo in 2000 adding that the owner of the passport has no right over the passport, “it is government property”
While stressing that one’s birthplace is so crucial, he said, “I recall going to Malaysia at a particular year. I was travelling with my associate who had a British passport.
“I had a Nigeria passport and a Malaysia visa but I was told I could not travel by road in Malaysia. But my other partner on the trip had no problem even when he had no Malaysia visa.”
He said that action represented the way Nigerians are treated in the comity of nations lamenting that it was not so in the beginning for Nigeria.
“I remember clearly in 1980 you didn’t need a visa to enter UK. Naira was stronger than the dollar. Naira was legal tender in the UK. Those were the years before the locust began to eat us”
He said it is time for us to return to God to help us fix Nigeria stating being born in Nigeria has become a reproach.
He made several biblical allusions saying until Nigeria begins to make tangible investment in human capital, the country will make no progress.
He gave the examples of Biblical Peter and Paul stating that their birthplace and exposure affected the way they were treated by others in their generation.

He then wondered at the state of degradation in Nigeria wondering at the political maneuverings.
Obviously referring to the APC governorship primaries in Edo State and the alleged meddlesome attitude of the chairman of the party, Adams Oshiomhole , he said, “When short men begin to cast long shadows the sun is about to set”
The forlorn state of the country notwithstanding, Bakare said it is faith in God that can take Nigeria to the desired future praying that “We shall rejoice soon as God will sweep wicked men away from power”.
