Abel Damina and his frankenstein monsters

For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.

— 2 Timothy 4:3-4 KJV

Many in the Christian community know little about Dr. Abel Damina. But he is popular in some circles and wields a lot of influence among some young people.

Damina has a large online following with many meeting places called campuses spread across the globe. He is the Senior Pastor of Uyo based Power City International Church and also the founder of Kingdom Life Network.

He has an interesting trajectory. He once preached prosperity to a fault line. He once confessed he could raise money from Satan when he was deep in the prosperity gospel. But he soon found the light according to him when he stumbled on Andrew Wommack’s books.

Those books were what according to him brought a dramatic change to his life. That was after several years of preaching material prosperity and fathom deliverance.

With this background it is normal to be happy for him and rejoice that at least one preacher has been saved from being a purveyor of the faulty gospel of material prosperity.

Recent developments however show that he may unwittingly be re-enacting the story of the Frankenstein monster. In a sense, he is breeding a growing audience of young followers who seem to have taken an oath to be eternally tied to him and who may bring ruin to his ministry if care is not taken.

Though, Frankenstein’s monster is a fictional character related to the mythological character Prometheus, who fashioned humans out of clay and gave them fire, what Damina is breeding, by the growing controversial online audience is not however fictional. It is fueling tendencies embedded in doctrinal controversies.

Since his much-celebrated change from the prosperity spell, Damina seems to have embraced yet another gospel that seems appealing; but when placed under scriptural binoculars is a harbinger of poison. This stems from his misinterpretation of the Canon of the Old Testament.

Anybody who follows his teachings cannot but see the characteristics way he ties scripture with scripture trying to wriggle people’s mind from age-long Bible tradition.

So listening to him gives an impression that this man has done his homework and he is on a journey to rescue the entire Church from the pit of ignorance. But what is worrisome is that some of his messages stir controversies that have no bearing with living out the truth of the gospel.

He started off questioning the abode of God. Where does God live? For the young mind craving to know more, that question seems intelligible. He is not satisfied with Jesus’ claim of ‘our father who art in heaven” and feels the believer must make it a duty to know where God lives in the particular. He believes that if God created heavens and the earth he could not possibly live in the heavens that he created.

Nice one you say. Then he goes on to tell his ever egregious followers in another message that a loving God can’t kill. It was interesting watching him quote scriptures after scriptures to buttress this point in some of his messages. He believes what happens in all the cases where God was alleged to have killed was that God withdrew his presence from those places.

So for him, the destruction of the first world, the killing of the firstborns of Egypt, and several other documented killings in the Old Testament were not with the knowledge of God.

His listeners don’t hesitate to nod their heads in acquiesce; believing his verbiage. God does not kill is now a song on the lips of his ever boisterous online army. They are perhaps not intelligible enough to understand that even if his claims that God does not kill is true, what is the rationale behind God withdrawing his presence? Suffice to say that several Bible passages are to the contrary.

The dust over whether God kills or not was yet to settle when he brought out another revelation from his bag of exegesis. This time, he says Angels and Moses connived to write the Ten Commandment. He said emphatically in his May 1, 2020, message that Angels and Moses are not to be trusted. He believes God had no hand in the laws of Moses.  According to him Moses dictated the laws to Angels who wrote them on a tablet of stones.

Yet, the army of people flocking around him are quick to pick up his message and have gone a step further to help amplify it.

The twist of the Damina theology now is that his followers have literally gone loose on social media. Some are not deceived. They keep poking jokes in some of his teachings.

One said on the Damina Facebook Page, which was allegedly created without his knowledge that it was Satan who in fact sent angels to Mary to deliver the message about a coming saviour. They have gone a step further to make all kinds of derivatives from his May 1 message.

You only need to take a visit to his Facebook page to see how arguments reign on a daily basis. You mention sin, they tell you, don’t be sin conscious. You dare not talk about living holy. That is denigrating the work of grace.

But that seems to be just a dot in the problem Damina has created. He has built cult followership. One of his online followers said nothing will take him from Damina and that he was ready to die with him.

You can abuse Moses and Angels. But anytime you attack his heretic teachings, his fans will come after you. Yet, Damina himself placed a disclaimer. He said in an online broadcast that he was not aware of the group. He said he was totally oblivious of the page which has been there for a couple of years.

The question is, why is he now placing a disclaimer on the page that has helped to spread his gospel and gathered a whole lot of people to him?

Indeed, his disclaimer is coming too late. He has created monsters of uninformed people mostly young people who don’t know their left from their right. Some of them perhaps don’t even understand his message and the context they are being rendered. They have helped not only to give the grace message another colouration but to try to redefine God from their human prism. How long this will take nobody knows.

The discerning public should however note that Abel Damina is not preaching any new gospel. He is only regurgitating what Marcion preached centuries ago. It is only a matter of time, this supposedly new found theology will fizzle away the way that of Marcion fizzled out.

Heresy has always been a major pro of the Church from the beginning. The Apostle Paul expressed the fear of the emergence of false teachers among the elders of the Ephesian Church (Acts 20). In fact, the primary mandate of his pastors, Timothy and Titus and several others, was to prevent the teachings of falsehood in their respective places of ministry. In the early Church history, the internal schism caused by heresy, took a heavier toll on the Church than external persecutions did. It was easier for the Church to quickly revover from persecution , than to survive heresies.
The present day Church is being misled into the oblivion through unwholesome teachings and preachings. But Jesus knows
those who are his. He will surely preserve them ass long as they stay true to his word.

Not all who claims to be followers are truly followers but it is clear from scriptures that God has never hurt a fly, that we are the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus, that we are not to be sin conscious, that Moses gave the law because of the hardness of people’s hearts, that Pharoah was destroyed because of the hardness of his heart, that God withdrew to Mount Zion and hierarchically, angels began to take human worship, see the case of Gideon, until Salvation was done, that God doesn’t live in the heavens, as in heaven above the sky.
There might be things that are considered extreme but we can see through the epistles to ascertain the verity of these.

Jesus is Glorified.

I would say that that editorial contains a lot of misleading information about the ministry and teaching of Abel DAMINA. I have listened to many of his teaching and I would say most of the conclusions here are not true. Dr Abel had had held a teaching series on the message of salvation for 30 days every year for seven year running and this year he is doing 60 days. A man who had committed over 250 hours teaching on salvation only and for this long period and you are here using one message out of a series of messages to falsely conclude about him. I would suggest you conduct an interview with him to understand the message he is teaching. Abel DAMINA is not growing a cult of young men who have no direction. There are renowned men of God who understand and follow and affirm his message. Such men like Bishop Mike Okonkwo, Bishop Idahosa, Pastor Adefarasin, Pastor segun Onayinka to mention a few. It important to be careful the what we say about a man God had raised for this generation to equip the believer to function in knowledge.

I thought you were going to tell us the truth in what you claim was wrong, this man has been teaching single-handedly on a single subject called salvation for the past 7 years without contradiction and you claim he si growing a false following without even quoting a single scripture to buttress your point. all the best i suggest you pay critical attention to his messages.

For all of you publishing lies against the man of God., Dr. Abel Damina, God’s judgement is on its way and you will receive your reward. I am not Damina’s member but i know his teaching are scriptural, anyone in doubt should go listen to them on his or her own.

We don’t need to listen any more. I heard Dr Damina disputing what is written about Enoch in Hebrews chapter 11. It’s written in plain language there that Enoch did not die. This is just one of his teachings that I find mind boggling. Here is what is written in that Scripture
Hebrews 11:5 NKJV
By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
Hebrews 11:5 TLB
Enoch trusted God too, and that is why God took him away to heaven without dying; suddenly he was gone because God took him. Before this happened God had said how pleased he was with Enoch.
Hebrews 11:5 NIV
By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death: “He could not be found, because God had taken him away.” For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.
Hebrews 11:5 NASB
By faith Enoch was taken up so that he would not see death; AND HE WAS NOT FOUND BECAUSE GOD TOOK HIM UP; for he obtained the witness that before his being taken up he was pleasing to God.
Hebrews 11:5 KJVS
By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
But Damina disputed this. What else do we need as evidence of falsehood? There is nothing new about false teachings. The bible warned us about these and we read about false teachers. If believers can not understand what is plainly written, then how would they understand even when God is speaking to them personally?

Anyone having problems with Abel Damina’s teachings has no revelation of Christ. For Apostle Peter wrote about Apostle Paul’s hard teachings, in quote: 2Peter 3:15-17, ” And the account that the long-suffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given into him hath written unto you; As also in his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are somethings hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own distruction. Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.”
There is only one way to understand the teaching of Abel Damina: through revelation. There has never been in his teachings where he taught outside the Bible contents. It may seem heresy, because you don’t understand. Your spiritual innerman has not recognised Jesus Christ genuinely. For any that is genuinely born of the Father must identify with the True Identity of the Father. Well, it may sound good to pick up or read false meaning to Abel’s teachings. One thing is for sure: All his teachings point to One Man “Jesus Christ” and nothing else. You feel you don’t understand pray fervantly for God our Father to open your heart to come an understanding with the teachings of Apostle Paul. Or else, you end up kicking against all the messages of our beloved brother Paul. With one single revelation of this teaching, you will teach more than Abel Damina.
Everything he teaches he uses Bible verses to give you truth, and not just any Bible the New Testament Teachings. Both the New and Old are linked together. If there was no Old Testament there wouldn’t have been the NewTestament. For if Adam didn’t sin, Jesus wouldn’t have come.
I urge anyone who wants to listen to Abel Damina to open up their hearts, and not to be jugemental and condemnable. There has been one and only message from Genesis to Revelation, and that message is Jesus Christ. You may have not seen Jesus in all the books of the Bible, that doesn’t mean He is not there. He is there in the Laws, in the promises and Psalms, in the prophecies, in the gespels, in the acts, in the epistles, and in the Revelation.
Glory to Jesus Christ our Eternal Saviour
Amen.

Bravo Dr Abel Damina and Teacher John m bezalel in Kenya for opening believers eyes to understand that upon believing and trusting the finished work by Jesus on the cross they are forgiven eternally contrary to religious intimidation of mixing grace and law e.g coarcing believers to pay tithes to b blessed.

For a long time religion has been good at sophisticating Godliness with pastors masquerading as high priests in a bid to correct tithes which was not the case in the early church mixing old and new testaments doctrines has spoilt the kingdom truth. So we in church times of truth

I have engaged with many of his deceived followers on many platforms. I have always maintained that Abel is still recovering from the diabolic prosperity gospel. He preaches another Gospel, contrary to the true gospel of Jesus. His view about the old testament scriptures and his twisted view about Christ reveals his Sound doctrinal Bankruptcy.
Abel preaches another Gospel Galatians 1:16.
He’s one of the many people who have crept in the Church secretly and are spreading their destructive heresies. Their ministry is full of confusion and controversy.

I stumbled on Dr. Damina’s teaching earlier this week, and I am inspired. Like the “monsters of uninformed people” referenced above by this unnamed writer, there is a lesson to learn in every message of Dr. Damina when approached with an unbiased mindset. Just to put things in perspective, I am a practicing believer, have read the bible from cover to cover, and I also have multiple degrees from secular universities.

When I saw the title of Dr. Damina’s message on tithing, I was curious to see how he would prove his stand. Using the same scriptural passages I have preached in the past, Dr. Damina showed why believers should give more generously. I saw critical information in the text of Malachi and Acts of the Apostles that now help me aspire to give more than ten percent, yet he did not mandate people to give the tenth in the message.

I did check out the links referenced in this provocative missive of an angry unnamed writer and, surprisingly, I was even more enlightened. How unfortunate to read an article published by a website that is supposed to “report the church in a professional way”, and whose publications are supposed to be “packaged in a way that offers the reader a refreshing insight into the activities that take place in the Church and carried out by Christians in every sphere of life”. When I analyzed the contents of this article, I did not see professionalism (except if it means self-serving) or refreshing insight. Rather, what I read were insults, attacks, and “uninformed” assertions common to liberal American media’s unsupported claims. Even in foundational English classes, people are taught to avoid the level of generalizations this writer (or writers, whichever the case may be) degenerated into. Below is an excerpt:

“Indeed, his disclaimer is coming too late. He has created monsters of uninformed people mostly young people who don’t know their left from their right. Some of them perhaps don’t even understand his message and the context they are being rendered. They have helped not only to give the grace message another colouration but to try to redefine God from their human prism. How long this will take nobody knows.”

Church Times Nigeria, if there is any objectiveness in your writership, please clean up this mess and avoid attacking people without doing basic research. Of course, if you prefer to keep writing this way, you should probably change your aim to reflect unsolicited attacks on anyone you do not like.

Thanks for your response, It would have been nice if you counter the issues raised in the article with relevant scriptures rather than saying the article is ill-conceived. By the way the article did not mention the issue of tithing, it only highlighted some of the outlandish teachings of Abel Damina like the dwelling place of God etc. Please read the article again and address the issues raised. Thanks

Abel Damina has never said, nor does he hold the position that the Bible is wrong. All he does is use the Bible to explain itself. He is an advocate for rightly dividing (explaining) the word of truth. He for one believes that the Bible is without contradiction. I wonder if you agree. If you read the Bible literally without proper understanding you can only conclude that it contradicts itself severally.

Listen to this people, who is the writer of this article? you need to go back and read your self the bible , when Dr.Damina teaches ,we go back check the scriptures, we don’t just take whatever he says, we Excavate the scriptures, we have found out that he is right, with what is teaching, but because you religious people want to brain wash people with your false doctrine telling people that God has two characters, ”

Then you keep people in bondage with the God who gives and takes away , when interpret scriptures with your opinion, you say what the bible doesn’t say. So

Please write on people you know ,leave Dr Damina alone, and he is getting more young generation, cause their eyes are being opened up.

Shalom sir, you should have debunked what the writer wrote with scriptures instead of this diatribe. Read between the lines. Identify the highlighted portions of the piece and click, it will take you to scriptures that knocked off Damina’s positions. The areas mentioned here are just a few of the unbiblical teachings of Damina. His positions on tithe and first fruits are excellent. His message against prosperity gospel is also excellent. But his position on believers should not confess sins which he now preaches, and tacit support for reckless Christian living are things the church should stand up against. I hope your eyes of understanding would open to see the poison in his new gospel which evidently is not new. It is the doctrine of Marcion

It’s good to know the scriptures but it is erroneous and possibly dangerous to not know the spirit behind the scriptures. Because a person can tie up scriptures doesn’t mean he/she is right, the person might as well be quoting out of context. It is important to know the word and the power, together. Because the letter (the word) without the spirit killeth but the word with the spirit of God, it giveth life. Believers just support anything that suits them, but they don’t want to go through the process of asking God about it because it is tedious. If you are really interested in your walk with God, you will scrutinize everything and remember the Bible didn’t say we should test words but we should test the spirit behind the words (1John 4:1). There are instances in the bible where evil spirits spoke what was true, but that doesn’t mean it is the truth. Let’s be guided. God will help us.

I have been with Pastor Damina from the beginning but left him in his initial prosperity teaching which glorified immateriality and worldliness. He now professes he has changed. Listening to his new controversial messages, I will say, he is worse now as he contradicts scripture and major church doctrines. How can you say Genesis 1 & 2 are mythical, God cannot kill, a believer cannot go to hell no matter what; no hell, once saved, ever saved ( even if you a robber), no need to fast, when you wake up, you have fasted- your breakfast is breaking of fast, no deliverance or music ministry and many things he preached against. His message on tithes is even worse than the tithes pastors. He means you should not give a mere 10% but all you have since all you have belongs to God. Though to me, I feel you give cheerfully to God’s work. Tithe is an offering to God. Whether it’s 10% , 80% or 100%, God accepts your offering. His followers don’t know scripture. They just come to argue. They like going against scripture saying it is doing away with religion. People should search the scriptures and not throw away the form of doctrine was delivered to the saints. He should be called to order or declared heretic

The article has only pointed out some controversial messages of Damina and it was not designed to rubbish him. We respect Damina and also respect his effort at enlightening people. BUt such effort has to be put in context. Messages like where God dwells are inconsequential and has no bearing on our day to day relationship with God.
