The Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Humpe, has urged members of the Christ Morning Star Society to live up to their billing by shining the light of Christ everywhere they go.
He made the call while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the 45th anniversary celebration of the Lagos Chapter.of the society.
The event took place at the Cathedral Church of St. Thomas on Sunday September 13. It attracted members of the society across various parishes of the Anglican church in Lagos and other parts of the country..

The speech
Humpe in his speech noted that the society plays a strategic role in the church and the larger society. He pleaded with members to complement this role by living out the values associated with the name of Christ.
According to him, members of the society have consistently demonstrated commitment to the work of God and should continue with their support for both the Church and people outside the church.
“I have observed the activities of your society right from my days as the People’s Warden of the church. You have demonstrated uncommon love for the work of God, and I charge you to continue to do more
“As you support the work of God, continue to extend this love beyond the walls of the church by supporting government at all levels in delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. I am impressed with the annual palliative programme you organise for the less privileged in our churches. Please continue,” Humpe added.
The council chairman also stressed the importance of prayers and constructive engagement with leaders, noting that government alone cannot meet all the needs of the people.
Sermon
In his sermon, the Dean of the Cathedral, Ven. Dickson Ilegbusi, commended the activities of the society and urged members to continue reflecting the light of God through their actions and commitment to the propagation of the Gospel.
Anniversary highlight
As part of the anniversary but celebration, the Lagos Chapter of the society, led by it’s President, Star Olusegun Sobowale, distributed food palliatives to indigent families within the church and the surrounding community.
The Chapter Publicity Secretary, Mr. Tunji Oguntuase explained that giving palliatives to indigent people is the society’s own way of supporting government efforts. “It’s a tradition we practice every year. We can only improve on it. Our goal is to bring succour to people who are going through economic strain. As God gives us the grace, we will keep supporting the needy.” He said.
