Why we need to make God our dependable ally

By Gbemiga Olakunle

And they were helped against them, and the Hagarites were delivered into their hand, and all that were with them, FOR THEY CRIED UNTO GOD IN THE BATTLE, AND HE WAS ENTREATED OF THEM; BECAUSE THEY PUT THEIR TRUST IN HIM”- I CHRONICLES 5:20, KJV.

The preceding two verses narrated how the sons of Reuben, and the Gadites, and half the tribe of Manasseh went into war with the Hagarites, Jetur, Nephish and Nodab.

But rather than beckoning on any earthly king to help them, they chose to make GOD their Dependable Ally by crying unto Him for help.

And of course the Omnipotent GOD didn’t fail them. He responded swiftly and granted them the needed victory over their enemies.

In the same vein, whether as individuals or a Society, we are being confronted with battles of life (seen or unseen) on a daily basis. Some of these battles may be inherited, territorial/environmental or even self- inflicted. And we may be tempted or be under intense pressure to go down to Egypt to seek for help or solutions rather than cry to GOD for His timely divine intervention and help.

In such a time like that, the above quoted Scripture should serve as an admonition to us to make GOD our Dependable Ally by crying unto Him and ask Him for the needed help be it for a timely financial assistance, healing, guidance and even deliverance from all kinds of demonic oppressions.

And at a macro level as a Nation, instead of wallowing in self- pity and agitations due to some economic and security issues that may be confronting us, we should cry unto GOD for His divine intervention in His own way and manner that we least expect just as He has done as recorded in our Political History.

And may GOD tear the Heavens and come speedily to help us and rescue us from our unfavourable life challenges as we cry unto Him in JESUS’ Name.
