The presidential candidate of the Labour Party Mr. Peter Obi has said the 2023 presidential elections will be the culmination of the miracles he has experienced in his political carrier.
Obi made the submission during a live interview session with Seun Okinbaloye on Channels Television on Monday, July 24.
He was responding to the statement by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar that he should not expect a miracle in the 2023 elections.
Obi said, “miracle is at the root of our faith what strengthens our faith is a miracle. For me, since I started this political journey, my achievements and records have been miraculous.”
He recalled that he ran for the governorship in Anambra on the platform of a party that was less than one year in 2003 and won the election. “But they declared somebody else. I went to court and everybody said it was impossible. They said there was no way I could get the seat back and that it has never happened before. But after three years, the court declared me the winner.
“I was sworn in only to be impeached six months after. I was impeached alongside Fayose and Dariye. I went to court and again I became the first governor to come back from impeachment. So I was the first governor to win through the court, and the first to come back from impeachment.
“I became the first governor to seek the interpretation of the constitution. I can go on and on to tell you that I am a product of miracles. I am looking forward to the next miracle next year to complete my journey of miracle.’
He debunked insinuations that he bought his way into the Labour Party explaining that the primaries of the party were the most credible of all the political parties.
He said the leading candidate of the party. prof Pat Utomi stepped down for him and the process of electing him was free and fair.
He confirmed Atiku’s claim that he did not inform him before leaving the PDP explaining that he didn’t want to be talked out of his decision to leave the party
Obi who said he also did not tell his family of his decision to quit PDP declared that he was ready “to fail doing the right thing than to succeed doing the wrong thing.”
On what he would do differently on security when he gets to power he said the first step will be to approach the issue holistically and work on creating jobs for the teeming youth population.
Beyond job creation, Obi said some of his game plans are not things he would like to discuss in the public space.
He however assured that bandits would be treated as criminals while attempts will be made to engage a vast majority of people with criminal propensity productively.
If elected, he said he would first do a major tour of critical areas in the county and appeal to those that needed to be appealed to and make his government inclusive of all interests.
