Pastor Kumuyi blows hot over successor issue, says, ‘Nobody can control me, God will bring a successor at his own time”

The General Superintendent of Deeper Life Bible Church, Pastor William Kumuyi, has expressed great displeasure at some subtle agitations within the church regarding a successor, wondering if members of the church are tired of him, while also insisting that nobody can control him.

He bared his mind in a recent Bible study programme where he was addressing members of his church. The programme was shared online and monitored by Church Times

Pastor Kumuyi, who looked quite agitated while delivering the message, said he would not be stampeded to succumb to the whims and caprices of some elements in the church

At a point in the course of his message, he asked, “Are you tired of me?” to which a resounding nooo came from the congregation.

Referring to an unnamed young man who preached in the church a week earlier, he said, “The brother who taught the other Tuesday kept saying there is no leadership without a successor. He said it twice. I felt that was too much, more so since your father is still here. God will give a successor at his own time.”

He went on to mention Bible characters who had successors, adding that it was God who chose those successors.

Kumuyi, who was pained that some members of the church don’t seem to like him around, said, “You are not going to fight your shepherd, your pilot. I reject any member of the church, whether you are a worker, choir member, or security person, who tries to control me.

“I won’t even take that from my wife because I am the head of the home, and if she tries to control me, she knows that I have been preaching before I married the first wife and before I met her after the first one died. I stand where I stand and nobody will put me under pressure.’

He then pleaded with all members of the church, irrespective of their status, not to kill his conviction.

His words, “Don’t try to kill my conviction. It will only make me resist you so that when you get to the other side, you won’t say I did not tell you. I will keep on telling you that under your resistance until I go”

Kumuyi said further that he had put in a process whereby so many gifted people in the church are allowed to preach, while stressing that the issue of a successor is in the hands of God.

He recounted how he spent so much time digging into God’s word just to give the church the best saying, “If God gives you a pastor that is still very active at this age, with a good voice running everywhere to preach the gospel and you are asking for a successor, it makes me think you are tired of seeing me around. You don’t want to make me feel I’m imposing myself on you.”

He said a successor is coming. “When the time comes, God will choose a man after His own heart. Don’t try to drive me away, even though I know you cannot.”

why should he be agitated that members are asking for successor...why does he think anyone asking such question must be resisted (resented)...if there's a clear and well communicated succession plan, why does he think his members would be asking for such...does he want to pass on and leave a succession crisis in the leadership and amongst his followers...bless God for his good health and agility at that at over 80, yet he talks as if he holds the power of longevity and perpetuity...when does he feel is best to come up with such succession plan if not now that he's over eighty...if he wants one of his biological sons to assume his position after him and succeed him, as a common practice amongst today's many church founders, denominational leaders and mega geehoes of Pentecostal, Evangelical & Word of Faith movement everywhere global, why is he afraid (shy or silent) to state it? After all, the church brand náà him own - "ènìyàn ki kere nìdí nkan ẹ" and "aito ẹyin ka la n f'ọwọ."...He should be man (of God) enough to state what he plans and wants, and not cowardly take cover under the guise of leaving it to God's hand and God's time; not resorting to armchair tactic of bullying, resisting and resenting those asking his take on that genuine and very germane question...has he asked himself if God is calling his attention to this succession planning thing through the message of the pastor he seems to be resenting for raising it?! Guess he's projecting his human frailty saying people should not manipulate and stampede him into taking such decision. The fact that he reduced the discourse of succession plan to the level of how he relates with his wife on matter of decision-making shows clearly how he may jolly well be so malleable to be manipulated by the same woman or how overly domineering (deaf, dumb and dead) he is not wanting the input, views and counsel of a wife - a sign of I know it all, after all náà mẹ God called.
