A common problem, challenge and crying desire of most people in our churches today is to have just even one golden opportunity to meet or sit, one – on – one with the bishop or General Superintendent or General Overseer of their church denominations. Several and uncountable members and even thousands of pastors would give anything to have this golden opportunity to meet with their G.O even if it is just for a few minutes. They believe their problems will be solved and his mere touch or answers or even smile will work wonders. And this sometimes happens because “the placebo effect” works too equally in religion as in Medicine.
That is the level of trust many Christian Nigerians have in their leaders. And it is good, people ought to have faith in their leaders.
Several years ago a popular G.O sent his pastor to me requesting that I should see him. This was before the era of GSM telephony. I went to see this well- known and respected G.O. As the pastor was escorting me away after the meeting he made a remark: “What you have just done casually ( I e., seeing the G.O) many people and even pastors in this church who have been here for many years have not been able to do that.”
Few years earlier I was in Lagos to see another Daddy G.O, perhaps the most famous of them all. The pastor at the reception desk looked at me and possibly wondered whether this rustic fellow had really come to see a whole Daddy G.O. But I gave him my name and where I am coming from. He picked a phone and dialled and the response from Daddy G.O: “Let him come in.”
And then I entered with my assistant.I know the man would be greatly surprised.
What a memorable experience we had that day! It was like Moses and Joshua before the Mount of God.
It was inside the office of this man that I saw a visible Presence of Almighty God. The Presence of God in that office and around the man was too notable to be missed; the whole place was charged with God’s Presence. My assistant noticed the same thing and told me when we got out.
Today, is that the story? Has prosperity and money not derailed the Modern Church?
I digress.
How to see any Daddy G.O
Are you in any of these churches and you will like to see Daddy G.O? I will teach you how you can see him and what to do but the responsibility is yours, not mine. Be prepared to take responsibility. I am just only a writer.
Before I tell you what to do listen to these two stories.
There was a man in the Kingdom of Israel named Absalom. He was the son of the king and his mother too was a princess of another realm, so he was blue blood through and through.
One day he committed a crime against his father and the kingdom of Israel ( the details are not necessary) and he fled to his mother’s people in the Republic of Geshur staying there for years.
The king his father eventually forgave him and he was brought back. But the king refused to see him face to face because what he did, the murder of a prince, the firstborn of the king still pained the father.
After two years and he couldn’t see the face of the king his father he was frustrated. On every New Moon when all the King’s sons are seated and at every important occasion he would not be allowed to sit with others because the king refused to see him. This led the young man to the point of frustration and trauma.
He tried to see the king through many efforts but to no avail. Just like many of you have written letters upon letters to see the “king” of your church denomination without success.
Finally a thought came to his mind. Absalom summoned the King’s Chief Commander to whose name was Joab but he too refused. He sent other messages to him and he refused again to come or see him. It is an unwritten rule in palaces and in the game of power that when the king is against someone every other person steers away from that person so as not to incur the wrath of the king. He becomes a social leper.
Absalom then thought what he would do. If you want to see a person and he wouldn’t see you what is to be done? He asked his counselors and they told him what to do.
He called his servants and associates and ordered them: “You know the barley field of Joab, not far from mine, go and set it ablaze. On my orders…”
It was shortly before the barley harvest that year. Think of the damage to Joab!
Without thinking they moved and set the barley field ablaze costing heavy damage for Joab. Immediately, Joab who had refused to see Absalom came hastily himself to see him and find out why he did that.
He refused to come when he called him but when the barley field was touched he arose immediately and answered the call.
Absalom then told him, “Why did you bring me back from Geshur? Go and tell King David, ‘Thus saith Absalom thy son, either you kill me or you see my face. Choose, today is today.
We either meet today or someone will take his own life.”‘
Joab had no choice now. He had lost a barley field and if he didn’t carry out his message who knows what next his servants would destroy? And who will arrest the King’s son seeing they are protected and secured by immunity?
Joab went and told David. David thought about it.
“Amnon is dead. Tamar is disvirgined. And if I allow this one too to commit suicide then who will succeed me as children?
“This naughty boy, how long will I suffer this boy…”
The king then ordered Joab, “Okay, go and bring him.”
That day Absalom saw his father’s face.
Did you get the story? The barley field.
After he touched the barley field Joab who had refused to see him came himself and the king who had refused to see him also welcomed him and embraced him. Did you get it?
What is the barley field?
Pay attention.
Here is another story and you will get it.
There is a man, a native of Abeokuta whose name is Tunde Bakare. He is an Egba man through and through of Gbagura extraction. In the course of time he converted from Islam the religion of his fathers and became a Christian and soon a preacher. Egba are known for outspokenness and brutal frankness – those characteristics would help him later in life.
There was another man, a native of Omu- Aran, Kwara State whose name is David Oyedepo. He too converted from Islam the religion of his fathers and became Christian. Soon too he claimed he had a Damascus- like experience at Ilesha and became a preacher.
Possibly because of the similarities and affinity in their stories and backgrounds as former Muslims the two met and became friends, bosom friends. They were so close they had even slept together on the same bed – as friends, not as gay partners.
Along the line one moved from the North where his base was and came to Lagos. That was when the strain began.
But the real strain began with the messages coming out from one of the friends. Bakare was grounded in the rudiments and first principles of Christianity having gone from Baptist Church to Deeper Life and finally to RCCG unlike his friend. He began to worry about certain messages coming from his friend.
Are these biblical? Do these line up with Scriptures and with the traditions of the Church and even of historic Christianity?
After much pondering and prayers he made effort to see his friend privately to iron out some of these questions. He made phone calls but to no avail or response. He sent messengers but they could not reach the “king” of Winners Republic. Even for a friend to see him was difficult.
After several efforts and without success Pastor Bakare thought on what to do next with his bishop friend.
Remember, the barley field theory? When you cannot see a person go after his barley field. Every man has a barley field. You only need to identify it. When you touch the barley field it is the owner of the field who will send for you.
Bakare took his time. He waited for the right occasion and time. “Are you not an Egba man and a lawyer? Are you now afraid of a fight?”- the thought said to him.
He polished his armour and swords and got ready with his arrows. Nothing is more painful as an arrow fired from a friend and nothing is more truthful.
He went on television and preached his famous sermon – “Synagogue of Satan”, a sermon that would go down in the annals of Nigerian Pentecostal historiography, a vitriolic attack on the abused gospel of prosperity.
Sure he did not mention anyone’s name but from the practice and the book he tore on the screen everyone even the deaf and blind knew. For days the tapes began to sell like Osu bean cake both in Nigeria and abroad. He touched the gospel of prosperity and excess and extra – scriptural usages and symbols bordering on occultism. Bakare had lit a fuse.
Immediately, his friend who had refused to see him sent message asking where they could meet – “will you come to me or I come to you?”
The bottom line and end of the story: the man who would not see him finally was ready to meet him.
Remember, the barley field theory. When he touched the barley field then the man was the one looking for him.
Just like Joab and David had to send for Absalom and finally meet him.
The trending atory
There is a story currently trending on YouTube of a female member of RCCG who also desired to see Daddy G.O. but could not see him.
She wanted to complain that the financial burdens and levies they placed on the parishes are worse than the yoke of Israel under the Pharaohs of Egypt but no one would hear her. She said she knew other members are complaining and even pastors but they are afraid to voice out.
They had written letters to see the G.O but they couldn’t break the wall of bureaucracy and security around their king. Because the letter must first pass through the parish pastor, before getting to the Area pastor and the Zonal pastor, then Provincial and Regional and National pastor before getting to the G.O’s desk. How many years then would it take to see the G.O?
Idahosa was right.
I heard the late Archbishop Benson Idahosa once when he preached on Jesus and Bartimeaus and he regretted but admitted that preachers like himself today are difficult to see, unlike Jesus. He was sorrowful as he said it. That was a honest man, at least. He at least admitted the fact.
It is easier to see the king of the termites inside the mound than see a General Superintendent or Overseer of some churches even by their own members and pastors.
Then this lady summoned courage. Whoever taught her about the “barley field theory” or wherever she discovered it, I don’t know. But what she did next brought the G.O sending people and associates looking for her. She made a video on YouTube and opened up on the hardships of contributions they had to make for going to churches. That the headquarter of their church is more or less like a financial grave that always collect and demand and never says it is enough.
Some brutal frankness too. That the church should not force anyone to buy Open Heaven Daily Devotional because they could read it online and members should not be forced to give money to build churches, the Headquarters itself should cough out the money to build the church for parishes because it will carry RCCG’s name not the pastor’s name.
What a bold woman!
Her list of demands looks like Luther’s 95 Theses that sparked the Reformation. By the time the bloggers got hold of the material and externalize it and an army of Nigerians who naturally hate the Pentecostal churches, the news began to spread like wildfire. Damage control was out of it. The information was too damaging for the image of a church and its “king.”
Immediately efforts were made to ask the lady to pull down the video. Calls from office of G O and from even House of G.O to her to pull down the video. It was too late. Two days of damage are more than enough. Several have downloaded it and now reposted on their platforms.
Social Media may have to be the instrument that will set Nigerians free because it appears our political and religious leaders fear it more than they even fear God.
If printing was the trigger of Reformation in the days of Luther, Social Media will be the catalyst for Revolution in the modern day.
Orders were sent to her and her husband and Provincial pastor to come to appear immediately before Daddy G.O. Policemen were sent to escort them because it was a day of Environmental Sanitation to be able to make it by 9.00 AM before the Court of G.O.to explain herself and her husband.
Again, that sounds like Luther appearing before the Diet of Worms after his Theses were posted. A reformation or revolution is afoot in RCCG and many churches.
She finally “saw” the G.O.
I will stop the story there because I don’t dabble into church denomination’s affairs.
You see, it is easy to see the G.O.
Very easy.
What she had desired and prayed and wanted for years to table her complaints and many RCCG members would desire and pay any amount to achieve, a video achieved it.
Within days.
Why?
Because she touched the barley field.
The Barley Field.
It’s easy to see any man, any G.O, any president or whoever. Find out what his barley field is and touch it.
The barley field is that thing that is so dear to someone’s heart, that treasure or substance that one cannot do without. That is the barley field. It could be property, riches, money, wife, child, friend, voice, beauty, office, etc.
That was why the Greatest of all Philosophers, the Great Lord Jesus Christ said, ” Lay not your treasures upon the Earth …. where thieves and robbers are but lay your treasure in Heaven.”
That was why Paul said, “Set your affections on things above where Christ sitteth not on things on the Earth.” When your barley field is above no busybody or profane person can touch it. You cannot touch what you cannot access.
That was the secret of those old- time apostles, they were never- worldly and heavenly minded so nothing on earth could bother or affect their peace. Their hearts were in heaven because their treasures were there, for where your treasure is there will your heart be also.
They came to call Apostle Babalola once from the Mount of Erio that his daughter was dead, his own firstborn. He came down and preached his own daughter’s funeral and even encouraged people not to be sorrowful and he went back to the Mount to continue his consultations with God.
That was a man of God. That was an apostle indeed. Social Media cannot hurt a person like that; printing or guns or a thousand armies had no power over a person who had died to self whose affection and treasures are above where Christ is seated in majestic splendour.
When I tell you that you have lost real and authentic Apostolic Christianity many of you think I am being frivolous. Your eyes will open soon to what I have been saying. De play.
The barley field theory says, “All things been equal every man will arise to give attention to that which is dear to his heart.”
Chief Olusegun Obasanjo was in a programme when his phone rang. The news was ominous. The helicopter conveying Segun Agagu’s corpse to Akure had crashed killing people. Then very unthoughtfully the caller added: “Gbenga your son was on the flight.
Lobatan.
Ah, what a day!
Baba Iyabo lost his composure as a true father. Who wouldn’t? “Gbenga, ko so fun mi pe ounlo Akure” ( he never told me he was going to Akure)
It took time before it was discovered that the news was a fluke. But within those few minutes and hours Baba Iyabo’s blood pressure really rose. Bad people everywhere trying to raise an old man’s high blood pressure with bad news, a man who had “served” Nigeria faithfully.
Here is my point.
Even for a general, a Civil War hero who had seen action, a whole Jagunmolu of Egbaland, the one and only Obasanjo, “the former president who sits before even the Ooni,”- the Pontifex Maximus of Yoruba Pantheism and Syncretism – even for him he lost his composure when his first son was wrongly associated with death. The barley field theory. Even strong men have something so dear, too dear to their heart. That is the barley field.
If you know what the barley field means, can identify it and what to do with it you can see your G.O, your leader – any time, any day. You can see and call anyone.
The person you wanted to see may even be the one requesting to see you. Remember, the Barley Field.
You’re blessed
