Familoni enthroned Bishop of new Anglican diocese, says, “My vision is to shine the light of Christ”

The Rt. Revd Olufemi Familomi has been enthroned the Bishop the newly created Missionary Diocese of Oyo South by The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion)

His enthronement took place during an historic service held at the Cathedral Church of St. John’s Akinmoorin, Oyo State on Wednesday November 26

The service which was presided over by the Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Reverend Henry C. Ndukuba. drew over 40 Bishops and Archbishops of the Church, Government representatives, tradition rulers and hundreds of Anglican faithful from across the country.

With the inauguration, Oyo South becomes the 167th Diocese of the Church of Nigeria. The Primate’s official proclamation was received with great excitement by members of the congregation, who described the development as a significant milestone for the Church and the surrounding communities.

We will shine the light of Christ

In his inaugural sermon, Bishop Familoni called on Christians to remain prayerful and courageous despite the security challenges affecting parts of the country. He also urged government at all levels to intensify efforts toward protecting citizens and restoring peace.

He said his vision for the new Diocese is to shine the light of Christ by touching lives and also give support to the less privileged and the needy.

“We are being driven by the zeal and purposefulness of God, just like the biblical Abraham, who was told by God to leave his comfort zone and then became the father of nations.” He said.

The new Diocese according to him, will prioritise missionary outreach, youth development, and collaboration with traditional institutions.

He also pledged to strengthen community engagement and support programmes targeted at vulnerable groups.

Implication of diocese creation

Some members of the Diocese who spoke with reporters said the creation of Oyo South is a strategic step toward bringing the Church’s pastoral, spiritual, and social services closer to communities within the Akinmoorin, Awe, Fiditi, Jobele, and Ilora axis of Oyo State.

Before he was elected and enthroned Bishop of the new diocese, Bishop Familoni had distinguished himself as a cleric, administrator, and transformational leader.

​He has had an extensive career in the Anglican Communion, pioneering parishes, expanding infrastructure, and leading multi-million-naira investments.​

He is a Fellow of multiple professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Management (FNIM), the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (FCIPM), and the Chartered Institute of Administration (FCIA).CIA).

With his enthronement as the pioneer Bishop of the new missionary diocese, it is believed he will bring to bear his wealth of experience to that part of Your State and impact more lives with the gift of God in his life .
