A one-time Muslim, now a Christian and an Apostle, Michael Olowokere has sent a strong message to Pastor William Kumuyi, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Bishop David Oyedepo, and all church leaders in Nigeria on the state of the church and the need for the church to stay awake.
Olowokere, who became a Christian in 2010, has consistently been raising the alarm on the threat of terrorists in Nigeria and the need for the government to take decisive steps.
In the past, he had used his social.media platform to send messages to President Bola Tinubu urging him to deal with the root of terrorism.
He had also sent messages to the Sultan of Sokoto, asking him to talk to his people to stop killing innocent people in the name of religion.
In his latest broadcast however, he noted that there is no evidence the government is ready to end terror in the country. “President Tinubu is busy sharing rice around the country. The government is paying ransom to terrorists, thereby empowering them to buy more ammunition. There is no sign that this government is ready to stop terrorism in the country,” he said.
Turning to church leaders, Olowokere—who said he did not mean to insult any of them—noted that they have stayed too quiet for a long time. He warned that if they continue to stay quiet, in no distant time, Islam will take over the country, as happened in Jordan, Turkey, and other nations that were Christian nations in the past but have now become Muslim nations.
Olowokere wondered how church leaders allowed 12 states of Nigeria to be governed by Sharia law without raising their voices against it. He said, “Nigeria is a member of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation. The OIC has about 57 countries that are mostly Islamic countries. The criteria for being a member is that such a country should be 70 percent Muslim, but in Nigeria, it’s 50 percent Muslim and 50 percent Christian. Yet Nigeria is a member of the OIC. The agenda is to make Nigeria an Islamic nation.”
”But our church leaders are not saying anything. The 1999 Constitution of Nigeria is full of clauses which support Sharia and make provision for Islamic banking. But it has nothing about the Christian faith.”
While noting that it took just 30 years for Islamists to work in Jordan to make it an Islamic country, he said, “If we are not proactive and take necessary steps, Nigeria will be overwhelmed.”
Making reference to the UK and the US, he said, “Muslims in these countries are asking for Sharia law. Many cathedrals in the UK have been turned into mosques. My worry is that if we are not careful, our big cathedrals that we pride ourselves in will become mosques in the future if we don’t take concrete steps to stem the tide of the Islamization agenda.”
The apostle, who said he once served in both RCCG and Deeper Life Bible Church before starting his own outreach, said it is worrisome that Christians are being killed without church leaders doing something about it. He recalled how Evangelist Eunice Olawale a member of RCCG, was murdered in cold blood for preaching the gospel in Abuja, along with many other Christians, yet leaders looked on as if nothing had happened.
He warned that if they continue to pretend that all is well with the church without taking concrete steps, they will one day discover that all they had labored for has been obliterated by terrorists in the name of expanding the Islamic empire.
Olowokere then suggested the need for church leaders to come together, speak with one voice, and demand the abolition of Sharia in the 12 states of the North to protect Christians in those states.
”They should demand the abolition of Sharia as long as Nigeria is one single entity. If they want Sharia, they can have their own country. But as long as we are in this country together, we must see to it that Sharia law is abolished.”
He also suggested the need for a security network that will protect Christians from further attacks by terrorists. “All church leaders need to come together to have a network for security to protect Christians in their different worship centers.
The security team will be solely for protection. This is the time to have such a body because the terrorists are coming down south. In fact, they have invaded the south. There is hardly any day you won’t read reports of attacks even in the south. This is the time to act,” he pleaded
