Mr. Deji Adeleke, the elder brother of the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has given an account of the Saturday election in Osun State.
He alleged that the All Progressives Congress did everything possible, including spending as much as ₦60 billion to buy votes, in an attempt to win the election.
He noted, however, that all those efforts failed to yield results.
According to him, he prayed to God that the people would collect the APC money but still vote for his brother, who was seeking a second term in office.
Deji Adeleke shared this account while addressing a group of people in a video that went viral on Monday, August 17.
He explained that he maintained his composure and was unbothered during the election because he had prayed fervently and handed the entire process over to God.
According to him, the election was not won because the Accord Party—under which his brother contested—was bigger or better, but because God intervened on his brother’s behalf.
Referring to Gboyega Oyetola instead of Bola Oyebamiji as the main candidate his brother competed against, he said, “The only reason we defeated Oyetola was not because we spent more money. On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I prayed to God and said, ‘God, let the people collect their money and still vote for Demola Adeleke.'”
He alleged that the APC spent as much as ₦60 billion based on what he heard, adding that voters who were induced with cash received up to ₦50,000 to vote for them.
The elder Adeleke stated that he maintained a consistent prayer routine leading up to the election and referenced scriptures to pray for his younger brother.
He said, “I read Isaiah 41:10 and used it to pray. My belief in God is very strong. That is why I don’t run after people in high places. I believe God is the one who connects
people.”
