One year after Andimi, Boko Haram threatens to kill another pastor in its custody

Just barely one year after Boko Haram insurgents killed Reverend Lawan Andimi, the district chairman of the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria (EYN) in Michika, Adamawa State, the group in a new video according to reports is threatening to kill another pastor, Bulus Yakuru.

Yakuru has been in the custody of Boko Haram since December last year.

The Abubakar Shekau led faction of Boko Haram on Wednesday, February 24, gave a one-week ultimatum for its demands to be met or Yakuru be killed.

The demands of the insurgents are not known.

The report of the threat is contained in a news site HumAngle noted for reporting exclusive news on Boko Haram.

Yakuru was reportedly abducted when Boko Haram insurgents attacked the village of Pemi in Borno State on Dec. 24, 2020. Seven people were reportedly killed in that attack.

Before now, the pastor whose life is being threatened had been paraded by the insurgents in two separate videos in December and January during which he pleaded with the church and government to come to his help.

Though our correspondent could not get any of the videos, Pastor Yakuru was said to have pleaded with President Mohamadu Buhari, Governor of Borno State, and the Christian community to come to his aid.

The deadline, according to the terrorists, ends next Wednesday (March 3)

Yakuru: What he reportedly said

Yakuru was reported to have said, “I’m calling on President Muhammadu Buhari and the Governor of Borno to help me because I have been given a one-week ultimatum today, Feb. 24

“If you want me alive, I beg you in your capacity as President, the governor, and our local government chairman to save me from this suffering.”

“I’m calling on the EYN Church of the Brethren President to intervene and secure my release. Please pray for me. I have no powers to free myself

“Today is the last day I will have the opportunity to call on you in your capacity as my parents and relatives in the country. Anyone who has the intention should help and save me. Please release me from this pain.”
