For the umpteenth time, the Living Faith Church also known as Winners Chapel has rolled out its tractors and workforce to repair the federal and state roads leading to the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State.
Since the church moved to the town in 1999, it has taken it upon itself to maintain the roads.
The federal government seems to have abandoned the Idiroko road which leads to Cotonou.
Some other link roads under the purview of the state have also been abandoned making life unbearable for commuters whenever it rains.
The church’s media manager, Professor Sherif Folarin once told Church Times that the “church makes annual disbursements of millions of naira to rehabilitate state and federal roads in Ado-Odo Ota Local Government (Ogun State).’
This time, the church seems to be carrying out far-reaching repair work on the roads covering several kilometres.
Bishop Oyedepo took to his Facebook platform on July 30 to announce the work that is in progress.
He wrote: Winners at Work! We are in the process of working on a number of access roads leading to Canaanland to ease the movement of worshippers to and from church, as well as make transportation more comfortable for all commuters. These are images from one of the locations. To God be all the glory.”
Winners gesture: Nigerians react
Many respondents applauded the gesture wondering why bloggers are not singing the praise of the church for impacting its immediate community.
Rosy Uke wrote, “Bloggers will not see this, it will not trend in social media because this generation is confused. If winners sack few pastors even local radio stations will not let us rest, they will say even what did not happen.”
Another observer, “John Rivers wrote on the Facebook thread “Oh No! Not now! Sadly, I bring to your notice that all blogs, influencers, radio stations,s, etc have all gone on strike, hence not seeing this, let alone talk about it. I assure you (in PMB voice), they will publish it as soon as they resume. #hypocrites”
Animam Boniface says, “All the social media and anti-church activists will all go mute on this, their data don finish, their phones no longer working, Ndi iberibe”
Temi John-Akin directs his comment to residents of Ota, saying, “The people of Ota should be grateful to God. The light of God is in Ota town. My Bishop, thank you so much sir. Please, let’s know those access roads.”
One Daniel Divine Dä’mæls however differ from many of the positive comments, he says, My Question is: If the roads do not actually lead to the church, and if not because of the worshipers, would David Oyedepo Ministries International still think of making any attempt in Repairing these roads??? Just a question anyway. I come in peace!!!”
Pronto, he got backlashes from many on the thread. About 119 people responded to his criticism of the church’s gesture at the time of putting together this story. While some supported him, many took a swipe at him wondering why he failed to see the good works of the ministry.
So far about 1500 comments had trailed the post as of 12.45 am July 31 while1100 Facebook users have shared it.
