Jesus changed water to wine, not fruit juice-J.N Jacob

Wine

US-based Kenyan preacher and motivational speaker Dr. Jacob Kinyanjui Ng’ang’a gives a rather controversial perspective about Jesus and wine using Bible to back his claim. He wrote on his Facebook page that Jesus took wine severally. Find below his thoughts

Jesus turned water into wine – otherwise, it was not a miracle! The usage of the term wine in John 2 at Cana of Galilee is the same morphological term used in Genesis 9:21 that made Noah drunk. It was the Jewish custom to take wine during weddings among other occasions.
Jesus took wine severally, not just at the last supper because it was a Jewish tradition – that’s why the Pharisees accused him of being a drunk.
Matthew 11:19 – The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’
Luke 7:34 – The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and you say, ‘Here is a glutton and a drunkard, a friend of tax collectors and sinners.’

WIne: Paul warned against too much of it

The Apostle Paul warned the church at Corinth for taking too much wine during communion until some of them got drunk. Grape juice wouldn’t have made them drunk!
1 Corinthians 11:20-21 – So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers. As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk.
Why are you trying to defend God? Is your faith this weak? God doesn’t need anyone’s defense. The fact remains that the Bible speaks against drunkenness in the same vein as gluttony. Jesus said we are never defiled by what we eat (Matthew 15:11). Paul warned us not to judge people on what they eat or drink (Colossians 2:16).
Romans 14:17 – For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

I lost my uncle to drunkenness. I speak against drunkenness. I’d rather people don’t taste even a sip of alcohol lest they degenerate into alcoholism. But I’ve travelled widely and I’ve seen cultures where wine is part of their dinner. Be open to learn. Learning is not compromising your faith.
