The Chairman of the Lagos State Chapter of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, Apostle Eyinnaya Okwuonu has explained why the fellowship is supporting the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu in his bid to secure a second term in the state.
He gave the explanation on Thursday during a meeting of the leadership of the fellowship in Lagos.
Okwuonu said the decision to support Sanwoolu was based primarily on his performance in the state and the need for him to consolidate on his achievement in the last four years.
He said he has over the years seen in Sanwoolu a man with vision whose desire is to impact lives. ‘Moreso, he is one of us. He is a child of God and we need to give him that support. And that does not mean we don’t value other candidates.”
Also at the meeting, the fellowship’s Director of Politics and Governance, Bishop Theophilus Ajose said it had to take a stance concerning the governorship race because Governor Sanwoolu has done well in the state.
He said, “There is no need to change a winning team. The governor has done well and we thought it will be great if he is allowed to continue the good work that he started.”
Ajose explained that it is the candidacy of Sanwoolu that is of interest to the PFN and not the party. “The gubernatorial election is not about the party, but the person of Babajide Sanwoolu. So far, he has made the church proud and has governed the state without any religious bias. He deserves our support.”
The meeting was attended by a number of PFN leaders including Apostle Akin Akindejoye who called on all Lagosians to rally round the candidacy of Sanwoolu in the March 11 gubernatorial election
