Tolulope Arotile: CCTV footage will clear doubts of Nigerians

A human rights activist and author, Comrade Paul Ikechukwu Njoku, has said a CCTV footage of the accident that claimed the life of Tolulope Arotile, first Nigerian woman combat flying officer, will go a long way to answer the questions on the lips of many Nigerians

In a statement made available to Church Times, Njoku urged the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) to release the CCTV footage on how she died in a car accident inside the Nigerian Air Force Base in Kaduna State

NAF’s Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola in a detail preliminary report on July 19 informed that Miss Arotile was killed by her friend, Nehemiah Adejoh.

Adejoh according to the report mistakenly hit her with his vehicle while trying to catch up with her on the reverse in an attempt to greet her.

The rights activist, however, expressed discomfort over the report saying there is a need for some concrete evidence that would put the matter to rest.

He also advised President Muhammadu Buhari to order for a constituted Forensic and scientifically transparent corona-inquest into the death of Arotile.

“I want to believe that there are CCTV footages mounted in and around the Nigerian Air Force Base and its environs in Kaduna State. Nigerians want to view the footage for unified assessments, independent reviews and Forensic measurements.

“As a matter of fact, there should be a thorough investigation of all the mobile call-log communications and WhatsApp calls/ messages of all the hierarchy including the survivors of those involved in the road accident inside the Air Force Base in Kaduna,” the statement reads.

He statement reads further, “Nigerians want to be convinced on the possibility of how the driver who has already sighted the direction of his ex-secondary school classmate speedily hit her multiple times or hit her gravely whereby crushing her legs, stomach and head even on a reverse gear without break failure.

“People want to be convinced how the driver and two other occupants of the car did not die or sustain any life-threatening injury in such a supposed fatal accident”, Comrade Ikechukwu, stated.

The young combat officer was killed on July 14, 2020, at the age of 24.
