Tithe message: How Pastor Adeboye was misled to slam RCCG pastor

Pastor Enoch Adeboye

The viral video of a Pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God on tithe; which Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Church frowned at, was a doctored version according to findings by Church Times.

A top pastor in the church told Church Times that Pastor Adeboye’s attention was drawn to the video by a UK based Nigerian pastor.

Unknown to the pastor, it was the doctored version he sent to Adeboye.

The pastor according to the source drew the attention of Pastor Adeboye to the message, telling him, “see how your pastor is preaching against tithe’

Pastor Adeboye later reacted to the video at the last Holy Ghost night saying his pastor’s message was devoid of substance. He then went on to state reasons why Jesus and the Apostles did not collect tithe.

Findings by church times however showed that the RCCG pastor’s message which went viral was a doctored version… It is in fact a pro-tithe message..

The viral video did not show the concluding part of the message where the pastor tried to make case for tithe after denouncing it at the beginning of his message.

The full video which is on the YouTube channel of the Life Centre RCCG parish in Abuja showed clearly that the pastor was in support of tithe payment. But it appeared he was speaking from both ends of his mouth.

He used the early part of the message to dwell on the controversies over tithe payment and sounded off as someone against tithe

But he also took time to impress on his listeners that tithe payment is the least any Christian can do. This formed the later part of his message which was removed from the one in circulation..

While answering a question during the Bible study, he said since people would not allow the holy spirit to minister to them on what to give, the issue of the tithe became important.

He said money from tithe is used for running of the church.adding however that the church has benefitted more from free will offering. He urged his listeners to pay their tithe but that if they want to follow the new testament model they are to give more.

He cited example of how Jesus asked the rich young ruler to go sell all that he had and bring the money.

He was silent on the fact that Jesus asked the ruler to give the money to the poor.

Adeboye apology

Though the RCCG authority has not taken any action on the Abuja pastor apart from the reaction of Pastor Adeboye, a source very close to Pastor Adeboye told Church Times that , ‘ pastor Adeboye was misled.

‘He may have to apologise to the pastor. After listening to the full message, it was clear that the pastor was not against tithe. The version that is being circulated on social media is just about half of the message.. it did not fully represent the message of the pastor.’ said the source.

Church Times was also able to confirm after listening to the entire message that it is a pro-tithe message. The pastor also went a step further to misinterpret Jesus’s position on the rich young ruler.

Just as the RCCG Abuja Pastor was silent on the fact that Jesus asked the ruler to give the money to the poor, same way the RCCG General Overseer was silent about the fact that the Apostles shared evenly amongst the members the money brought to Apostles' feet. The apostles didn't corner it nor appropriated and abrogated to themselves the money or the power (discretion) to do and undo whatever they like with the money. It is obvious that the more [y]our pastors and so-called fathers of faith try to defence and perpetuate this "tithe" thing, the more they expose themselves and their errors. For GO to have allowed himself to be "misled" into openly repudiating the Abuja Pastor and denigrating the man's pro-tithing message believing it was anti-tithing speaks volume of the sense of judgement of the church leader and his intentions and authority to make things right on this tithe thing. Trust the Abuja pastor will face far much worse backlash and victimization behind the scene.
